CATCHING UP WITH... Mrs. Edmonston CATCHING UP WITH... Mrs. Edmonston

Dear Coyote Families,

It was another wonderful week at Canyon View Elementary! It was a joy to welcome our Coyotes back to campus after our restful Thanksgiving break! It was inspiring to see our students immediately re-engage in their learning and reconnect with their classmates. We hope all of our Canyon View families enjoyed time with loved ones and are feeling refreshed as we head into the last few weeks of the calendar year. As always, thank you for your continued partnership and for helping us maintain a positive learning environment.

This week is filled with exciting events! We look forward to hosting the Westview Ambassadors on Tuesday for a special playground play-date where our students will have a wonderful opportunity to connect and collaborate. Also this week, we have our 2nd Grade Choral Music Performances, where our talented students will share their beautiful music with their peers and families. Thank you to our wonderful music instructor, Mrs. Serrano for preparing our students, and thank you to the CVES community for your support for the CV Foundation, which makes this program possible.

Let's Make it a GREAT week!

Warmly,

Erica Edmonston

KNOWLEDGE & NETWORK, A SPECIAL EDUCATION PARENT AMBASSADOR PROGRAM

Knowledge & Network, A Special Education Parent Ambassador Program presents:

Transition Planning for Every Age and Stage

Tuesday, December 9, 9:30 to 11am

In person at the Community Room of the District Office

15250 Avenue of Science, San Diego, CA 92128 and on Zoom

Transition is an important part of every child’s educational journey—and your support plays a vital role in making each step a success. Whether your child is moving from preschool to elementary, elementary to middle, middle to high school, or preparing for life after high school, understanding what to expect and how to prepare can make a meaningful difference.

Join us at our upcoming Knowledge & Network meeting to hear directly from Parent Ambassador panelists as they share their personal experiences, practical tips, and valuable insights on how to support your child through each transition stage. You’ll also hear reflections from a student’s perspective about his journey and experiences transitioning into college—an inspiring look at how preparation and support can make all the difference.

Your involvement and advocacy are powerful - together, we can help every child thrive through change. To RSVP for the meeting, please click here or follow the link on the event flier.

Garden Volunteers Needed

We're looking for enthusiastic Garden Volunteers to help our students learn and grow! 👩‍🌾🌱
This is a fun, flexible way to get involved. Volunteers will:
  • Present short, hands-on garden lessons (about 20 minutes) to students.
  • No experience necessary! You don't need to be a garden pro or a certified teacher! We provide the materials.
  • The days and times are flexible and will be coordinated individually with you and the teachers.
Important Note on Clearing:
  • All volunteers must be cleared through the school/district system. We'd love to have Level 2 volunteers who are cleared to work independently with groups, but we can happily accommodate Level 1 volunteers as well!

Interested in helping our school garden thrive? Contact Terri at terri.l.lane@gmail.com or call 619-861-6427.

Just Ask! Be Different, Be Brave, Be You, written by Sonia Sotomayor, illustrated by Rafael LĂłpez

The United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities is a special day recognized by the United Nations every year on December 3rd. Proclaimed in 1992, this day encourages people around the world to spend time appreciating how everyone is unique and how some may experience things differently because of a disability (whether it’s visible or not!) This week in the CVES Library we read about individuals with disabilities and talked about the importance of being kind, helpful and respectful. “Just Ask! Be Different, Be Brave, Be You” written by Supreme Court Justice (and award-winning author) Sonia Sotomayor provides an insightful and interactive way for families to discuss a variety of physical and brain-based challenges to foster greater awareness and understanding.

Interested in Visiting or Volunteering at Canyon View?

We love our volunteers! To get started, complete the Level 1 Volunteer Application for Canyon View Elementary at bit.ly/CVESVolunteer or click here (includes TB clearance and Megan’s Law check).

Some roles—like coaching, robotics, or working with students unsupervised—require Level 2 clearance. To obtain or renew Level 2 status, complete the Level 1 steps first, then request a Level 2 form from our office and complete fingerprinting at the PUSD District Office.

If you are visiting campus for a short time—such as attending an assembly, performance, class party or meeting—you do not need to register as a volunteer; simply check in at the front office as a visitor.
