This Week in Science History
Oct, 7 1885 Niels Bohr was born in Denmark. Bohr was instrumental in finding the structure of an atom. He received the 1922 Nobel Prize in Physics for his accomplishments.
Biology
This week in Biology, We will continue our unit on biochemistry by exploring macromolecules and enzymes. Our unit will conclude with a test on Wednesday, then we will start an exploration in cells.
Honors Biology
Watch out love birds! This week in Honors Biology we will begin our studies of cellular structures with Cell Organelle Virtual Dating 💖. We will compare different types of cells, look at the Endosymbiotic Theory, and look at disorders caused by problems in organelles.
AP Biology
What’s that? Math in AP biology? Yes! Bring on Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium to closely examine how populations evolve! We will also use various examples in nature to examine the process of speciation. Bioinformatics will be utilized as we do the BLAST Lab.
Chemistry
This week in chemistry, Students will demonstrate their level of understanding of Unit 2 concepts (chemical bonding and nomenclature) on their Unit 2 Summative Assessment on either Monday, October 5th or Tuesday, October 6th (depending on your student’s teacher). Then students will begin Unit 3 which will initially cover the mole and mole conversions. We will be using a multi-day case study to facilitate student learning. As always, remember, CHEM is TRY!!
Honors Chemistry
This week in Honors Chemistry, Monday we will start the second half of Unit 2 by introducing ionic, covalent and acid/base nomenclature. This will build on what we covered the previous week with bonding including students identifying bond type and using the appropriate vocabulary and description of properties for the types of bonds. Unit 2 summative will be scheduled for Thursday, October 15th. And always remember that CHEM is TRY!!
Environmental Science
This week in Environmental, We are continuing our examination of aquatic biomes. Oceans, rivers, estuaries, and reefs are all on the menus. We will have a summative test at the end of the week.
Conceptual Physics
This week in Physics, we will have our summative assessment over 2-D motion, then move on to concepts of momentum and circular motion. #NASCARmotion
Honors Physics
This week in Honors Physics, we will begin looking into momentum. What happens when two objects run into one another or separate from one another? We will discover this together.
AP Physics
This week in AP Physics, we will be continue learning about work, power, and energy. #NerG
Oceanography
This week in Oceanography, we will begin our new unit on Ocean Motion: that includes winds, currents, and tides! We will continue with student led SOD presentations. Be on the lookout for a unit quiz!
Earth Systems
This week in Earth systems, we will begin looking deeper into the way that Earth weathers and erodes at its surface, including things such as soil, landslides, and glaciers.
Forensics
This week in Forensics, Our studies and blood spatter concludes at the beginning of the week. Next we will investigate DNA Fingerprinting.
