CONTEST SEASON IS HERE

BOA MIDLAND gave us a good starting place. Let's regroup and get things focused in the right direction to maximize this season. We got amazing comments from judges and had great conversations with them at our clinic on Sunday morning. We have several ideas to finish out our show and maximize from a writing perspective. Make sure you come tomorrow ready to maximize every rehearsal so we are refining the performance throughout.

Band Fest Tickets*. BUY FROM YOUR STUDENT!!!

ALL STUDENTS were checked out 4 tickets to sell to anyone that would like to attend band fest. Tickets are $5 each and all those attending need a ticket. All proceeds come back to our band program if tickets are purchased from a Sachse Band Student. Students need to keep track of these ticket to turn in the money from those sales into the box. Any unsold tickets can be returned following the event this TUESDAY!!! If a student needs additional tickets to sell, we will add tickets upon request.

Spring Band Trip

Your first month payment should have already been paid into CHARMS. Please put this in the miscellaneous ledger and label it NOLA- September! Please get this taken care of ASAP if you haven't gotten it completed.

Eligibility

THIS WEEK IS THE FINAL WEEK OF THE GRADING PERIOD!

Eligibility can be very confusing as there are exceptions to some classes. It can also be confusing as to when students technically become ineligible/ eligible. We work to communicate directly with students who may be affected so they are clear with when they are able/ not to participate. ALL students are eligible for all practices regardless as this is also a class and grades are taken for practices. Most performances, depending on the nature of that performance are affected by eligibility. Please do not assume that your child is not eligible. Reach out to a director for clarification if your child is also unsure.

The end of the first 6 Weeks will be the first check to determine eligibility. It is imperative that students are passing all classes at both the 6 and 9 Weeks for all marching band activities. This is one of the confusing pieces as the FIRST 6 Weeks grade is the only 6 Weeks Report that a student can lose eligibility. All other 3 and 6 week grade checks can only help a student regain, but will not cause them to lose eligibility.

Finally, please be aware that due to the complicated nature of the system and calendar, it is highly likely that classroom teachers that don't handle eligibility regularly may not understand how it works. Please refer to a band director to answer questions about eligibility.

For a listing of courses exempt from ineligibility, go to our course guides page. Page 20 is where you will find all exempt courses.

Important Reminders (repeat announcements)

Parking when you drop off your student for all events is imperative.

ALL students being dropped off or picked up for ALL events, PARENTS MUST PARK!!! DO NOT STOP AND DROP OFF AT THE CORNER OR IN THE FIRE LANE.

Per Mr. Creel: "There are no more warnings. If a student is caught being dropped off there, they will be suspended from the next game or contest. That discipline will come from me and there is no appeal when that occurs."

Please follow instructions regarding pick up and drop off, it would be a shame to miss out on a game/ contest because we can't follow simple instructions.

Parents, please use the parent band app if you have questions that you need answered. The main band app is intended to allow staff to get necessary information to the entire group all at one time. It is not intended to be your facebook page. Please use it appropriately or it will be necessary to turn off all commenting on the main page.

Student guidelines for football games expectations are reviewed during inspection. Students who are not able to meet expectations outlined in the band handbook may be subject to removal from the program. All students and parents have signed and agreed to these expectations in the band handbook, inspection reminders are simply reminders of expectations that are already in place. If you need to pick up a copy of the band handbook, we have extras in the bandhall office available for anyone who needs them.

Looking Ahead...

Keep an eye on progress for upcoming region auditions. Freshmen have an audition coming up on November 11 at Rockwall Heath HS and High School auditions are December 2 and 4 at Sachse HS. We will need a lot of parent help to run this contest.

Region Jazz Band Clinic/ Concert is November 17-18 @ Rockwall Heath HS.

POST GAME PICK-UP

The same expectations as student drop-offs apply to pick-up. Please make sure to enter the front parking lot and find a parking space to wait for your student to come to you. Do NOT park in the fire lane to pick them up even if they happen to be coming out at that time, this backs up traffic for other parents trying to get into the parking lot.

FALL BREAK (repeat)

The band calendar has also been adjusted to give the students a break during a portion of this week. Please refer to the band calendar and make sure that you are clear for all band activities as fall break is at our busiest "In Season" of the year! Everyone will need to be present for our Thursday Rehearsal prior to that game as well as Friday on October 12-13, 2023.
Band Calendar
ALL FALL ACTIVITIES are updated on this Calendar!
Most Spring activities are listed as well.

BAND FEES

At this time, all fees should be made through CHARMS. SKYWARD fees will need to be paid. These should be added soon and we will notify you when they are in so you can pay. These fees will not show in SKYWARD yet.
