2026-27 Middle School Course Catalog

Some edits were made to our timeline after LTMS counselors visited West Cypress Hills last week and after this week's snow days.

  • The Course Selection forms will go home with students Wednesday, January 28.
  • The Course Selection form will be due to students' teachers on Monday, February 2.
  • Students will be enrolling in classes at school on Tuesday, February 3, so it is important for that form to make it back to school!

6th Grade Course Selection Information

Planning for the upcoming school year- and students' first year in middle school is one of the most exciting times of the year. Selecting classes is about strategic planning and personal growth. Beyond the subject matter, choosing a challenging course load helps students develop time management and critical thinking skills that will benefit students for years to come. Course selection is about exploring opportunities and interests as well. Electives allow students to test-drive potential careers- from Graphic Design and Engineering to Computer Science and/or careers in the Fine Arts.

Three Tips From Middle School Counselors for Choosing Courses:

  1. Look Ahead, Not Just At Next Year: Understand how a choice today (like taking a specific prerequisite) opens doors for advanced classes 2 or 3 years down the line.
  2. Know Your Limits: It's tempting to sign up for every advanced class, but remember to leave room for extracurriculars, hobbies, and rest. A balanced schedule is more successful than an overloaded one.
  3. Utilize Your Resources To Help You Make Great Choices: Our Parent Course Selection Information Meeting is at Lake Travis Middle School on January 29 at 5:30pm for rising 6th graders. The graphic below contains links to additional resources!

Attention LTISD Parents and Guardians,

The Discovery Program, otherwise known as Gifted and Talented, is now accepting parent referrals for KINDERGARTEN G/T Screening via this Google form.

The Elementary Discovery Program is a cross-curricular thematic-based pullout program for students in grades K-5. Participating students will demonstrate skills in self-directed learning, thinking, research, and communication as evidenced by the development of innovative products and performances that reflect individuality and creativity and are advanced in relation to students of similar age, experience, or environment. To be identified as gifted and talented, each student must undergo a screening and selection process. Assessment opportunities are made available once per school year.

If you feel your child is a good candidate for the G/T screening process, please fill out the link below. The deadline to register is March 12 at 3 pm. More information about the program can be found on the Lake Travis ISD Gifted & Talented website.

Referral link for Kinder students only - deadline March 12, 2026 @ 3:00 PM.

Keep your child's teeth and gums healthy! Free dental care will be offered to all LTISD elementary students in February. This Texas Department of State Health Services Oral Health Improvement Program initiative features clinics where your child can meet with licensed dental staff for limited oral exams to check the teeth/mouth, flouride varnish to stop or reverse tooth decay, and dental sealants to form a seal over teeth to prevent tooth decay.

The clinics will be offered at each elementary school as follows:

  • Bee Cave Elementary / West Cypress Hills Elementary - Feb. 23
  • Lake Travis Elementary / Lakeway Elementary - Feb. 24
  • Rough Hollow Elementary / Serene Hills Elementary - Feb. 25
  • Lake Pointe Elementary - Feb. 26

A signed permission form—which elementary students will receive soon—is required for services.

School Library Advisory Council School Library Advisory Council

In response to Senate Bill 13, our Board of Trustees has established the Lake Travis ISD School Library Advisory Council (SLAC.) The purpose of the SLAC is to formalize a collaborative process between librarians, parents, and community members in the ongoing development of strong library collections that support student achievement and meet state standards. This process helps ensure transparency, parent involvement, and a strong library program that strengthens student achievement while nurturing a lifelong appreciation, habit, and love of reading.

The SLAC works with librarians and district staff to develop a recommended list of library materials for procurement, including donated titles. At least 30 days before the Board’s vote, the proposed procurement list will be made publicly available for parents and community members to review and provide feedback. The Board will review these recommendations, consider any proposed changes, and make the final decision to approve or reject the materials. The SLAC will also recommend procedures for handling challenges to library materials and review challenges according to law before making recommendations to the Board.

Visit the SLAC webpage to access the Proposed Titles for Library Procurement List, Proposed Titles for Library Procurement List Feedback Form, and the Library Materials Challenge Form.

For questions or additional information regarding SLAC reviews or library material challenges, please contact Tasha Barker at watersbarkert@ltisdschools.org, or at 512-533-6036.
