students and staff gather at running creek elementary school for back to school barbecue

BACK TO SCHOOL BARBECUE AT RUNNING CREEK ELEMENTARY BACK TO SCHOOL BARBECUE AT RUNNING CREEK ELEMENTARY

This week, Running Creek Elementary hosted its Back to School Barbecue.

The event included hot dogs, desserts, Kona Ice and more. It was a chance for teachers and school staff to meet with families and update them on the school year. School district administrators also visited with RCE staff, along with members of the ESD school board.

Families had a great time all around, touring the school and receiving news and updates from Principal Michael Seefried. The PTCO hosted the event and Principal Seefried says it is something the entire RCE community looks forward to every year.

"It's also our back to school night", says Seefried. "Parents get to come in, meet and greet with the teachers, learn about what's going on in the school everyday and what it looks like in their child's life here at school"

A special thanks to the PTCO and all of the staff who worked hard to contribute to another successful back to school event!

THE STAGE IS SET FOR THE EHS 2024 HOMECOMING PARADE THE STAGE IS SET FOR THE EHS 2024 HOMECOMING PARADE

ESD Homecoming 2024 Preview: "We Got The Beat"

We got the beat!

Homecoming Week at Elizabeth High School is set for October 7th-11th and the EHS staff is very excited to roll out their theme for the year.

EHS Assistant Principal and Athletic Director John Everhart sat down with ESD Public Information Officer Jeff Maher to discuss Homecoming Week 2024 and what to expect. Check out the video interview above to learn more about the upcoming event.

This year, the theme is "We Got The Beat" and each day of that week calls for a different and fun way of showing school spirit. Homecoming is a valued and celebrated tradition in Elizabeth. The parade will start at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 11th, with staging beginning at noon.

We look forward to celebrating the parade and EHS Homecoming Week with all of you!

ESD TRANSPORTATION TO CHANGE OUT AGING PUMPS ESD TRANSPORTATION TO CHANGE OUT AGING PUMPS

ESD transportation fuel pumps that are aging out and clip art of school bus and gas pump

When is the last time you've seen a gas pump with one of those ticker style counters on the display? For most of us, we probably haven't come across that for decades, but that is what currently exists at the ESD bus barn. However, these aging out and rusty pumps are about to be on their way to the gas pump museum (...if there is such a thing).

ESD Transportation Director Tiara Noe says there are two pumps that are about to be replaced and both date back to the 1960's. One of the pumps is for unleaded while the other one is for diesel. Noe says the project will start on October 7th and is expected to take about two weeks. The updated pumps will have a key fob which will allow for mileage to be entered and will keep track of which employee is filling up. The key fob system will allow for a more accurate count and tracking of unleaded and diesel use.

The pumps were budged by Elizabeth School District, but Noe says the town, county, fire department and sheriff's office will be pitching in to help with the cost since they will be utilizing the pumps as well. The cost to change out the pumps is expected to be around $335,000.

Additionally, Noe says the ESD Transportation Department currently uses an underground tank for the pumps that is about 30 years old. She says the hope is to replace that tank by next Summer.

All together, 33 ESD buses use the pumps. All but two of those buses run on diesel. Additionally, ESD support vehicles use the unleaded pump. Noe says the pumps are a big need for the school district, especially considering that the pumps are aging and that parts are simply not made for them anymore.

Out with the old and in with the new!

Speaking of new, Noe also pointed out that ESD Transportation has added a new DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fuel) container, which is being stored in the bus garage. The new container will contribute to the cause of ensuring that ESD buses are running cleaner and better for the environment.

The DEF container was installed this week. Bus drivers are required to add DEF on a regular basis and there is a gauge that drivers watch that notifies them when the supply is running low. Noe says it is something that is a must have for the buses to run and is also required by the EPA.

Noe says her team is excited for the DEF container because previously they were using large multi-gallon drums to store the DEF that had to be frequently refilled. The new one only has to be refilled a couple of times per year.

EHS AUTO BUILDING FUNDRAISER COLLECTION JARS POP UP AROUND ELIZABETH EHS AUTO BUILDING FUNDRAISER COLLECTION JARS POP UP AROUND ELIZABETH

A flyer for the EHS auto building fundraiser with QR code

Attention ESD community! Don't be surprised if you start seeing this flyer attached to collection jars around town. While we had a first successful fundraiser with over $100K in pledges, we are still only one-third of the way to getting the EHS Auto Building completed. The total cost to finish the project is about $300,000.

ESD Leadership and Administration will be coming up with some creative ideas to continue the fundraising effort. Elizabeth School District continues to work with the Elizabeth Education Foundation on collecting donations and fundraising opportunities.

You can always donate to the project through MySchoolBucks by scanning the QR code in the flyer above. Thank you for your continued support of EHS and the auto shop building dream!
