Dear Howard Families,

I want to share some news with you—this will be my final year as principal at Howard. After a lot of reflection, I’ve made the difficult decision to step away at the end of the school year to pursue a new opportunity for me and my family.

This was not an easy choice because Howard has been such a special place to me. I have truly loved being part of this incredible school community, getting to know your children, and working alongside such a dedicated staff. It has been a privilege to be part of your child’s educational journey, and I’m so grateful for the trust and support you’ve shown me during my time here.

Howard is a wonderful school because of the people—our students, families, and staff who come together every day to create a positive and welcoming environment. I have no doubt that the school will continue to thrive, and I look forward to seeing all the great things that lie ahead for Howard.

Thank you for being such a supportive and engaged community. It has been an honor to serve as your principal, and I will always cherish my time here.

Wishing you all the best,

Deirdre Pearson

Dear Families,

I hope you all had a fantastic Spring Break and enjoyed some well-deserved rest! With the weather warming up, it’s the perfect time to get outside, soak up some sunshine, and make the most of the longer days ahead.

As we head into April, I want to remind everyone that consistent attendance is more important than ever. We’re entering the final stretch of the school year, and every day in the classroom helps our students stay on track and finish strong. If your child is feeling under the weather or facing any challenges, please reach out so we can work together to support them.

Let’s make the most of these beautiful spring days, keep up the great work, and continue to prioritize regular school attendance. We’re excited to finish the year strong and encourage everyone to stay engaged and focused as we head toward into the last quarter of this school year.

~Mrs. Elrod

Hello Howard Families,

Wow, It is already April! I can hardly believe it, Spring is here - Yay! I hope everyone had a wonderful Spring Break, and our amazing kiddos were able to get some well deserved fun over the break. In SEL (Social & Emotional Learning) land we will be focusing on Courage during the month of April. Courage is not the lack of fear, it is pushing forward in the face of fear.

When we think about courage, one way to look at it is choosing to do what is right, kind, and helpful even when you do not want to or it is scary. In this SEL unit students will learn how to develop the skills of goal setting, organizing to meet those goals and staying focused to attain those goals. An inspirational person who spoke of staying focused and having the courage to move forward is John Legend, an American singer, songwriter, actor and producer. He said, “ You can be world-changers. Pursue this life with focus and passion and ambition and courage.” You can change the world with the talents that you have if you use courage to show your talents. Showing your talents to the world can be very scary, it takes courage to move past those fears and let the world see what is inside you already. Like the cowardly lion in the Wizard of Oz, courage was already inside him, he just had to believe it. Likewise, courage is already inside us, we just need to believe it!

Have a Marvelous Month,

Mrs. Warner
