Message from the Head of School Message from the Head of School

Dear Parents/Carers,

Another very busy week at HISN with a strong focus on the love of reading and music. I look forward to sharing our news.

Last week Year 1 visited Brooklands Museum - click here to view their gallery.

This week, we welcomed author Lucy Lock into our school – who is the author of ‘Razzle Dazzle’ She welcomed all the children to ask questions and listen to her book. We also especially enjoyed seeing her props – including an axolotl! Please click here for the gallery.

Alongside this, we also had the pleasure of welcoming the Hampton Junior School Orchestra to perform in our KS1 Assembly. They performed a variety of pieces ranging from songs from musicals to various sea shanties. A big thank you to Mrs Burbage, Miss Morrison and Mrs Cranston for organising all the logistics. We particularly enjoyed learning about the different types of clarinets and the brass instruments – including the trumpets and baritone!

Unfortunately, the HPPA uniform sale was cancelled this week due to lack of parent volunteers. This is disappointing as we know many of our families rely on this event. The partnership very much relies on parent helpers to support HPPA. Without this team, the school, and its families, miss out considerably. We will be reaching out to parents for other events this term. If you are able to help please do - your time is always greatly appreciated.

May I remind parents who are still parking on the zig zags outside the school, this is both illegal and dangerous for our children, please refrain from doing this.

Thank you again for your continued support and we look forward to sharing some more exciting news next week. I hope you have a good weekend when it arrives and let’s hope this weather clears up!

Language of the Month - Swahili Language of the Month - Swahili

This month, the language of the month is ‘Swahili’ and I was delighted to listen to Sami talk about this language and how it is spoken at home with his family. We learnt to say ‘hello’ which was ‘Jambo’ and also looked at a map of Africa to see where the language is spoken today.

Nursery Nursery

Our learning focus has been fairy tales and we have been building straw, stick and brick collage houses for the little pigs, threading leaves and exercising our fine motor skills making beanstalks for Jack to climb and thinking of alternative ways for the gingerbread boy to cross the river. The children were very excited to welcome mums, aunties, grandmas and dads, uncles and grandads into Nursery to show them what their sessions in Nursery look like and all the exciting things they get up to!

Reception Reception

Jack’s mum threw his beans out of the window, and accidentally planted a beanstalk! The three little pigs have building houses and the wolf has been huffing and puffing and blowing them down.... as we continue our theme of traditional tales this half term.

Our sunflowers have also been sending up tiny green shoots and leaves, just like our assembly song. New sound “ed” has been helping us to write “jumped”, “learned” and “frosted.” We can hear that the same two letters together make three different sounds. In maths, we have doubling spots on a ladybird and a butterfly and writing a number sentence about it. We played an exciting game with two dice. Rolling a double gave us 1 point, rolling two unequal numbers meant zero!

We have been practising our lines and songs for our special assemblies about our Understanding the World topics this year.

It was very exciting to see our Mums, Aunties and Grandmas... and then our Dads, Uncles and Grandads visiting our classrooms and our playground. We coloured in pictures together, drew portraits and even had a hand spa! To view our MAG & DUG gallery click here.

Amazon Wish Lists Amazon Wish Lists

Over the last few years families have very kindly contributed gifts to the school via the Amazon wish list. These gifts are always incredibly well received and have made such a difference to the school community and your children.

This Wish List is populated by teachers who have a clear understanding of the additional resources that are needed and what would make the biggest difference. When completing your purchase, please remember to include a gift receipt stating which year group it should go to and who it is from.

If you are able to make a purchase, please follow the links below:

Dingley's Promise

Dingley’s Promise early years parent engagement events have now been moved online, making it easier for more families to take part.

On 23rd February, the Department for Education published its SEND white paper Every Child Achieving and Thriving, outlining plans to reform support across early years, schools and colleges.

Dingley’s Promise are hosting a series of facilitated online sessions for parents of children with SEND under 8. These sessions will explore the key proposals, break down the consultation, and give families the opportunity to share their experiences, discuss concerns, and have their voices heard.

Parking Parking

Reminder to all parents to be considerate to our neighbours when dropping off and collecting your child. Do not park on zig-zag lines, double yellow lines or block neighbours driveways. Parking on zig-zag lines blocks visibility for both drivers and pedestrians, particularly young children who may be harder to see. Please park legally and considerately, and allow extra time to find appropriate parking. Even better – consider walking, cycling or using a park-and-stride location if possible.
