7th Grade News, December 1
From the desk of Chris Howell, 7th Grade Principal
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends. Just think, in a few weeks, the winter holiday break will be upon us and half of the school year will be complete. Time is sure flying. Because of this, remember to remind your students to be sure their assignments are turned in.
I want to apologize for the missing newsletter last month. Unfortunately, I was under the weather and unable to get the link into Mr. Telloni in time. This newsletter will contain the Student Spotlights for the past month.
We had to cancel the annual Veterans Day Parade this year due to weather. However, we did celebrate our veterans with a ceremony in the SMS auditorium. Here is a link to the slideshow honoring the family members of our students, faculty, and staff. Thank you to all who served.
Need Food Assistance?
If your family, a student, or a staff member is in need of food assistance, please reach out to our District Social Worker, Celia Joyce, at 440-268-5588 or cjoyce@scsmustangs.org. Celia will work directly with you to ensure support and resources are provided.
News and Notes
- Please do not drop students off in the staff parking lot before school. This is causing safety issues
That's all for this week.
Mentorship Program
On Thursday, November 20, your student attended an assembly introducing a new mentorship program between Strongsville Middle School (SMS) and Strongsville High School (SHS) for current 7th and 8th graders. If you and your student are interested, each SMS participant will be paired with an SHS student who shares similar interests. Mentors and mentees will meet approximately every other week during the IE period.
The program is designed to provide additional social support for SMS students and to help ease the transition to high school.
Please discuss this opportunity with your student. If you would like more information or wish to express interest, please complete this form. The form includes a space for questions; completing it does not commit you to participation—it may be used simply to request further details.
Math Acceleration Information
SMS teachers are currently recommending students to take the Iowa Algebra Aptitude Test to help determine the most appropriate middle school math placement and assess readiness for the rigor of an Honors math class. Parents also have the option to request that their student take this test.
If your student is not currently enrolled in an Honors or advanced 6th- or 7th-grade math class and you would like them to be considered for an accelerated math course, please complete this form. Students listed on this form will have the opportunity to take the test to determine eligibility for this pathway. The test will be administered in mid-January. Please submit your request by January 5, 2026, 4pm.
Thank you!
