"It's a great day to be a Panther"
Monday, May 26th to Friday, May 30th
Principals Message
Happy Friday DKMS Panther families! It was another great week here in the middle school!
I would like to thank Mrs. Collins for organizing our career day on Thursday May 22, 2025. It gave our students a chance to hear from some community members about their careers and ask questions about it. It was an awesome experience for our kids!
The middle school finished NWEA testing this week. As I look through the data our students have made a lot of progress throughout the year. That's impart to all of the hard work they, their teachers, and you have put in this year. It really takes a team for academic success to happen and I am proud of the effort we all have put in this year. If your child missed testing on Wednesday we will continue doing make-up tests next week.
The middle school theatre group will be presenting The Little Mermaid Jr. next week in the high school LGI. Shows are $5 and tickets can be purchased in advance in the middle school office. The dates and times for these shows are:
- Wednesday May 28th at 7:00 pm
- Saturday May 31st at 1:00 pm
- Saturday May 31st at 4:00pm
Just a reminder to all of our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students about staying eligible for next week's grade-level field trips. Students need to continue keeping their grades up, attending school, and meeting our school expectations if they wish to remain eligible for these field trips. Please reach out to your child's teacher if you have any questions about their eligibility.
As always I would like to thank our students, staff, and community for all of their hard work and support. Last Friday we held our 8th grade dance and it was wonderful to see our students dressed up and having fun. This was all possible because of the hard work our parents put in to transform our cafeteria into the Casino Royale!
As we celebrate this Memorial Day, I would like to take a moment to remember and honor all of our service members who made the ultimate sacrifice or who have passed on. We will never forget your service to our country!
Have a lovely 3 day weekend Panthers!!!
PS: 8 school days until summer break...but who's counting?

Change Adds Up to Ice Cream for 6th Grade
Our 6th graders turned spare change into a sweet success by winning the schoolwide Change War fundraiser—earning themselves an Ice Cream Sundae party, thanks to the generosity of Partners in Education (PIE). A huge thank-you goes out to all students and families who contributed to the Change War.The money raised always goes toward supporting wonderful activities for our students.
Career Day at the Middle School
On Thursday, May 22nd, the middle school hosted Career Day. Local community members and workers visited to share information about their jobs and talk with students about different career options.
It was a great opportunity for students to learn about a variety of careers, and start thinking about their future paths. Thank you to everyone who helped make the day a success!
🎲 Casino Royale: 8th Grade Farewell Dance 🎉
On Friday, May 16th, the 8th grade students celebrated the end of their middle school journey with a Casino Royale-themed farewell dance. It was a special evening that students will hopefully remember for a long time.
A heartfelt thank you to all the parents and volunteers who made the evening so special. Your time, donations, and creativity made all the difference—without your efforts, the dance wouldn’t have been the amazing event it was!
We will truly miss the Class of 2029, but we’re excited to see all the great things they will do in high school.
Brothers in the Fast Lane
DKMS 8th grader Braydyn Loop has been racing front-wheel drive cars for the past three years. He enjoys traveling to different tracks, including Kalamazoo Speedway, Owosso Speedway, Galesburg Speedway, M40 Speedway, and Springport Mid-Michigan Speedway. Over the years, Braydyn has earned several impressive accomplishments, including race wins, multiple top 5 and top 10 finishes, and a top 10 finish in the season points standings. His most recent win came in the B Feature at Owosso Speedway. This year, he is currently competing in the points race at Kalamazoo Speedway and enjoys racing at different tracks on Saturdays.
Braydyn’s younger brother, Jaydyn Christle, also races. Jaydyn, who is 9 years old, drives mini wedges at Kalamazoo Speedway and Berlin Raceway in Marne, MI. He started racing at just 4 years old and already has many heat and feature wins. In December, Jaydyn won The Rumble in Fort Wayne, Indiana—an event that brings together racers from all over the country and is broadcast on TV. At the track, Jaydyn is proudly known as The Rocket Man with a Mullet.
Designs, Clippers, and Lots of Laughs
What’s a fun way to celebrate the end of the school year? For Mr. Weldon, Mr. Fleser, and Mr. Phillips it involves clippers and a lot of laughs.
As part of their yearly tradition, these three fearless teachers have given their students a funny and unforgettable surprise—wild designs shaved into their hair and beards. They do this every year to celebrate their students' hard work and to bring some fun to the last days of school.
A big shout-out to these three for keeping this fun tradition alive.
