Dear Emerson Families,

As we welcome February, we are excited to see the continued growth of our students: both academically and in their character development. Each day, our students are building new skills, deepening their understanding, and showing responsibility and effort in their learning. Families play an important role in this growth. We encourage parents to talk with their children about what they learned each day and celebrate their successes, big and small. Reading together or encouraging daily independent reading is one of the most powerful ways to support learning at home and help students strengthen their confidence and comprehension.

Our character trait for the month of February is Love of Learning. This means having excitement and a love for learning and giving your best effort as you grow your brain. We want our students to feel curious, motivated, and proud of the progress they are making. Parents can help foster this passion by showing enthusiasm for school, asking questions about what interests their child, and encouraging them to try new challenges. When students feel supported and excited about learning, they are more likely to develop a lifelong love of knowledge and a positive attitude toward school.

We would like to take a moment to celebrate and thank Ms. Debbie Elkins for her 11 years of dedicated service to Emerson Elementary. Throughout her time with us, Debbie has worn many hats, serving as a one-on-one paraprofessional and as an aide for our 5th and 6th grade students. Her steady presence, care for students, and willingness to step in wherever needed has made a lasting impact on our school community. One of Debbie’s many behind-the-scenes contributions includes being the “magic” behind our Fall Carnival, where she worked tirelessly to secure donated items and ensure the event’s success.

Debbie’s support reaches far beyond the classroom. She is always ready to lend a helping hand throughout the building: assisting in the office during busy times, faithfully completing stop sign duty each morning, and overseeing lunch detention with consistency and care. Her dedication has been essential to the smooth daily operation of our school, and her absence will certainly be felt. We are incredibly grateful for all she has done for Emerson Elementary and wish her the very best as she enters retirement and begins new adventures.

We would also like to recognize and celebrate Ms. Johnson for her eight years of service and leadership at Emerson Elementary. During her time here, she has taken on multiple roles, including assistant principal, principal, and director of the 21st Century Grant: each requiring a wide range of responsibilities and a deep commitment to our students and staff. Her flexibility, leadership, and willingness to step into whatever role was needed most has been invaluable to our school community.

Ms. Johnson has made a lasting impact, particularly in strengthening our early elementary programs and advancing reading instruction across the campus. Her focus on student growth and academic success has helped shape positive outcomes for countless learners. We are grateful for her dedication and the many ways she has supported Emerson Elementary over the years. She will be truly missed, and we wish her continued success in all that lies ahead.
