Model UN

Congratulations on our Model UN team for representing Kestrel at this year's Model UN Conference in Black Mountain, NC.

With 40 of the 170 total conference participants, Durham and Chapel Hill represented BIG! Not only did all the kids truly represent their cities and schools impressively, but they represented themselves and their ideas respectfully and boldly-not afraid to speak up when others did not.

Overall Durham represented 3 of the 10 conference officers, 4 of the 9 resolution authors and won 2 awards-one for model speaker and one for overall best country representation!

Kindergarten

Kindergarten is excited to announce our Graduation Ceremony will be on June 11th @ 9:00 a.m. We have begun working on our presentation for you all! Here in Kindergarten we have also begun the last few units in our curriculum and will shortly begin a review. We encourage you to continue to have your child read to you each night and practice their sight words. It is amazing to see the growth they've achieved from the beginning of the year, up to the present.

Ms. Filippone’s class is patiently waiting for their caterpillars to turn into butterflies! We have tied the butterfly life cycle into an addition math lesson to calculate when they will come out of their chrysalides. We then wrote about what our butterflies will look in our predictive writing unit.

4th Grade

Information on our Carolina Ocean Studies Field Trip is posted on our website. A hard copy will be going home in Friday Folders-please look for it!

In Math, our last chapter will be completed. Students are working on a dream-home project that is due May 8th.

In ELA this week, students have been trying to ESCAPE! While using their test-taking strategies, in combination with their knowledge and teamwork,

students successfully "escaped" from Mrs. Ross' room after figuring out text structures, themes and meaning in reading passages.
