Continuing Academic and Career Learning for 8th grade Continuing Academic and Career Learning for 8th grade

zoom_out_map

Now that we are past the ACP Meeting and Course Planning Season, we are excited for the opportunities ahead.

In 8th grade, we have two notable events coming up in Academic and Career Learning. On February 20th, Go Wisconsin will be coming to present in science classes. Go Wisconsin helps students prepare for their academic career ahead and understand academic options after graduation.

Additionally, 8th grade will be taking field trips to UW- Milwaukee in the beginning of March. Students will receive a small group tour with a student guide and will take part in a Q & A session before heading back to Whitman. Your student will be assigned a date ( 6th, 7th, 13th, or 14th); however, if for some reason your student will be unable to attend on their assigned date, please contact your student's counselor. Be on the lookout for a permission slip shortly!

Don't worry if you are a 6th or 7th grade parent! We have Career Week coming for all grade levels. This week will highlight different professions, practical applications of classroom learning, and will give students an opportunity to build and add to their Middle School Portfolio.

The public health vending machine will include:

  • COVID-19 test kits

  • Gun locks
  • Hand warmers and other winter items
  • Medication disposal items
  • Menstrual products
  • Naloxone (Narcan)

In Wauwatosa, we recognize the role that accessible health resources can play in the lives of our community members. We’re excited to provide a new way for community members to anonymously access essential health resources, allowing us to address specific community health needs, reduce access barriers, and increase Wauwatosa’s overall health equity. Together, we can build a healthier Wauwatosa.

Adding the public health vending machine will maintain our high community standards and safety. Staff members at the Wauwatosa Health Department remain available to help community members navigate specific health needs.
