Inspired by Dr. Brownie? Join the "Pop-Up" MRSD Multiple Learning Pathway Group
February 3, 2025 at 4pm
Recently a group attended the CACE Conference and heard from Dr. Pamela Allyn about the opportunities "pop-up" groups offer to organizations and districts. Dr. Allyn noted, "When you have so many great ideas, but not enough time - try pop up committees. Small groups concentrated on a single issue of interest."
Inspired by the video? Also by Dr. Allyn's suggestion? If yes, then let's follow CES' Dr. Kelly and her CES pop-up group lead, by creating our first MRSD Pop-Up Group to address Dr. Brownies' challenge to determine "What is the Question?" With other MSRD educators, this group will engage in a brainstorming session around possible future learning and exploration pathways that should be offered at MRSD. This discussion links directly with our MRSD Strategic Goal 2.3 and a lively discussion will be a powerful launching pad for this upcoming action step.
One meeting, one hour, one focused topic-that's all (unless the team decides to explore further in the future...)
When: February 3, 2025, 3:45-4:45pm
Who: All MSRD faculty and staff are invited to join this pop-up
Where: MRHS Sharkness Conference Room (Main Street)
RSVP: Multiple Learning and Pathway Pop-Up
If you can't make it, but have some thoughts to share, fill out the form above, and we will be in touch.
Best,
Robin, Kristen, and Lindsey

A Bit of Optimism Podcast
A Bit of Optimism Podcast with Simon Sinek: What Can We Learn from a Rural School in Kenya? with Principal Carol Moraa
Synopsis from "A Bit of Optimism:" Kenya’s Maasai Mara is rugged, beautiful, and tough. Values are everything for the people who live in this rural countryside.
On a trip to Kenya, I had the opportunity to visit The Mara. The intelligence and grit of the young people there blew me away! I met incredibly driven young women determined to uplift their families from poverty. Carol Moraa is giving them that opportunity. She’s the founding principal of Kisaruni Girls High School and Provost for Legacy College.
I wanted to ask Carol where her kids find the motivation to willingly sign up for 18-hour school days. It turns out when learning is a choice, not an obligation, it’s possible to build schools where cultural values and community are at the heart of what people do.
This…is A Bit of Optimism.

And For the New Year, a New Book from Mel Robbins Released 12/24/2024: The Let Them Theory
What if the key to happiness, success, and love was as simple as two words?
If you've ever felt stuck, overwhelmed, or frustrated with where you are, the problem isn't you. The problem is the power you give to other people. Two simple words—Let Them—will set you free. Free from the opinions, drama, and judgments of others. Free from the exhausting cycle of trying to manage everything and everyone around you. The Let Them Theory puts the power to create a life you love back in your hands—and this book will show you exactly how to do it.
Quote of the Issue
“it’s not the big moves that change everything—it’s the smallest ones in your everyday life that do.”

Community Recommendation
Resource Recommended by Mr. Westgate: Leventhal Map & Education Center; Boston Public Library
At the Leventhal Map & Education Center, we believe that maps are powerful tools for students to consider their place in their community and the larger world. By looking closely at maps from the past, present and even possible futures, students can connect themselves to larger systems that affect them and propose ideas for change. Giving students the tools to read and understand maps and the time to look closely and deeply at them can expand not only their geographic awareness but also help them to look critically at other sources of information they encounter.

Monomoy Regional School District (MRSD) engages in a regular, cyclical process for curriculum review. This process is driven by educators from all levels of the MRSD learning community who collaborate to evaluate, analyze, plan, develop, and implement curriculum and instruction throughout the district schools. To be successful, the following proposed plan has been developed to provide dedicated time, support, and resources necessary to complete a “deep dive” into the core of each subject area.
