HES Shark Scoop

Dear HES Caregivers,
It has been an especially sweet week here at HES.
Our fourth graders amazed us with their performances of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. With so many students eager to participate, we had two separate casts, and both were truly outstanding. Students contributed to all aspects of the production, including set design, lighting, and sound. We would not be surprised to see some of these talented young people pursue a future in theater. A heartfelt thank you goes out to Ms. Riley, Ms. Hirschberger, Mr. Weimer, and Ms. Senior for their creativity and dedication in making this performance come to life.
On Wednesday, we participated in the Massachusetts Department of Transportation’s Walk, Bike, and Roll to School Day. While our sidewalks are limited, we celebrated by walking laps around the school. Starting the morning with fresh air, movement, and connection is always a highlight for students and staff. We were also thrilled to welcome some of our local police officers who joined us to high five our Sharks along the way.
This week, our third grade mathematicians showed great focus and effort during state testing. Our fourth graders will take their turn on Monday and Tuesday. Thank you for helping your children come to school on time, rested, and ready to do their best. Your support makes a big difference.
We are also feeling very grateful to everyone who helped make Teacher Appreciation Week so meaningful. From the PTO-sponsored coffee truck and luncheon to the kind notes, drawings, flowers, and thoughtful gifts, your kindness lifted our spirits. On behalf of the entire staff, thank you. Your encouragement and partnership are deeply appreciated. It truly takes a village, and I feel lucky to be part of yours.
I hope you enjoy a restful and joyful weekend. A special note of appreciation to all the mothers in our community. Wishing you a peaceful and love-filled Mother’s Day. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if there is any way I can support you or your Sharks.
Warmly,
Christie

Notes from the Health Room
Hello Families and Happy Spring!
I hope you're enjoying the season! I have a few important health reminders to share with you:
Physicals for 4th Graders:
As your child prepares to enter Middle School, a current physical exam is required. The physical must be dated after August 3, 2024 to meet the school’s health requirements. Please plan ahead and submit the updated physical as soon as it’s completed.
Medical Restrictions:
If your child experiences an injury or receives any physical activity restrictions from a doctor, we must receive a copy of those medical instructions. This helps us support your child safely and appropriately during school activities. Please send the documentation as soon as it's available.
End-of-Year Medication Pick-Up:
If your child has medication stored at school, I’ll be sending a separate email in the coming weeks with details about how and when to pick it up before the school year ends.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns about your child’s health, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Wishing you a healthy and happy spring!

Call the Attendance Line If Your Shark Is Absent
Per the handbook, if your child is unable to attend school, please enter the absence in PickUp Patrol and/or call our designated attendance line, 617-848-0115, as early as possible. Soon after arrival, our office staff begins to call the caregivers of absent students if we haven't already heard from them. This is important, as we want to ensure that all students are safe. Your phone message with the reason for the absence is all we need. While an email to the teacher is helpful, it sometimes doesn't make its way to the office staff. Thank you for your help!
