Hello Class of 2027 seniors and families,

We’re excited to be a participating school in Direct Admissions Minnesota, a program that helps students explore their options for education and training after high school. Through the program, students will learn which Minnesota colleges and universities they already meet the admissions requirements for. These colleges will waive application fees and streamline the admissions process.

There are 55 colleges and universities participating this year, including technical and vocational schools, tribal colleges, community colleges, and public and private four-year colleges and universities.

Here’s what to expect this fall:

The process moves quickly, so we want to make sure you know what to look for and don’t miss this opportunity.

1. Check your school email: Beginning the week of September 21, seniors should watch their MyPanthers school email for a personalized survey link and a list of eligible colleges. The email will come from the Minnesota Office of Higher Education and will have a state.mn.us email address.

Each student’s list will include colleges where they already meet the admissions criteria for direct admission. The list is based on a review of the student’s transcript through 11th grade.

2. Explore your options: Use the links provided in the email to visit college websites and learn more about each school, including the programs, campus life and opportunities they offer. A variety of colleges will visit the high school this fall and students can meet with reps to talk one-on-one!

3. Complete the survey: Students can select the colleges they’re interested in being directly admitted to after graduation. Once the survey is completed, those colleges will be notified and will reach out with information about their next steps.

By selecting “yes” to direct admission, the following student information is shared with the Minnesota Office of Higher Education: name, MARSS number, academic information, high school transcript, contact information, gender and birth date.

The Minnesota Office of Higher Education uses this information to notify the colleges selected by the student, waive application fees and provide colleges with contact information needed to complete the admissions process.

4. Complete each college’s next steps: Direct admission makes the starting process easier, but students will still need to complete each college’s admissions requirements and meet deadlines to secure their spot. Some colleges may request additional materials.

Choosing to participate does not commit a student to attending a college. Students can explore their options, complete the admissions process and ultimately decide which path is right for them.

A few things to know:

Participation in Direct Admissions Minnesota is optional. Information shared through the program is available only to students and their parents/guardians, school staff, the Minnesota Office of Higher Education, the colleges selected by each student, the Office of the Legislative Auditor and upon court order.

Students can also choose to apply to any college directly through the college’s website. An application fee may apply when applying outside of the Direct Admissions Minnesota program.

If you do not wish to participate in Direct Admissions Minnesota, please complete the Direct Admissions opt-out form.

Be on the lookout for the email beginning September 21, and take some time to explore the opportunities available to you. You can also visit the Direct Admissions Minnesota website or review the FAQ for more information. For any questions, please contact your counselor.

We’re excited for our students to see the many possibilities ahead and to know that they already have a path to college right here in Minnesota. We hope you’ll take advantage of this opportunity to explore what comes next!
