Update from Superintendent Shuldiner
Dear Lansing School District Community,
I hope that this newsletter finds you well. As always, it is a pleasure to email you all.
We are less than two weeks from Spring, and today, we are supposed to see the mid-50s. Tomorrow, we might even break 60 degrees. Hopefully, this means the end of the ice and the snow, but this being Michigan, you can never tell. I want to thank everyone who was able to make it to school to learn and work, even when the conditions were not ideal. Though it is hard to believe, soon we will start thinking about air conditioning. As a reminder, this summer, we will be working on a series of HVAC upgrades to our buildings, with many classrooms and schools getting air conditioning for the start of next school year. I am very appreciative of our entire facilities team and our contractors for making this dream of AC a reality for many of our students and staff. And, of course, I want to thank all of the wonderful voters who approved our school bond and sinking funds to give us the resources to bring these much-needed upgrades to our schools.
As you all know, the district has many old school buildings, and the best way for us to upgrade them is to pass bonds and then rebuild. I can't tell you how much it means to all of us in the district to have your support so we can bring much-needed educational and building upgrades to our children and staff. Thank you!
I also wanted to give a huge shout-out to the Sexton Boys Basketball team for their stunning last-minute heroics. If you haven't seen the buzzer beater, we have put it below. It is truly amazing. The team will play Romulus Summit Academy North on Tuesday in a Division 2 state quarterfinal game at Jackson High School. If you can come out and support, please feel free to contact Sexton or the Department of Enrichment for directions to the game. I know I can speak for the entire community when I say how proud we are of the team's accomplishments.
Lastly, it is enrollment time! If you need to enroll, know anyone who needs to enroll or think you can convince someone to enroll in our schools, we are here to help. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out and ask. If you need help with our online portal, ask. If you have questions about what schools to enroll in, ask. If you have questions about kindergarten or twelfth grade, ask. We are here to help you find the best place for your child to learn today and next year. The sooner you enroll, the sooner we can get you any materials and information you might need for next year. So, if you know you want to enroll, please do it sooner rather than later. We are here to help make the enrollment process as smooth as possible.
Thank you so much for all of your incredible support of our district. Together, we will do great things for the children of Lansing.

What is Here Comes the Bus and why might you need it?
Here Comes the Bus is an easy-to-use website and app that enables you to see the location of your student’s school bus on a smartphone, tablet, or personal computer. You know when the bus is near your stop or has arrived at the school.
How does it work?
Here Comes the Bus uses global positioning system (GPS) technology to locate and track a student’s school bus. It is powered by software from CalAmp. The location of the school bus can be seen on a smartphone, tablet, or personal computer.
How do you sign up?
Access to the application requires a district-specific code (29845), the student’s last name, and student ID*. Only students enrolled in transportation are available in the app.
*You must add “LSD_” to the beginning of your student’s ID during initial sign up. For example, if your student’s ID is 12345, you should enter LSD_12345 into the app.
Is the information private and secure?
Here Comes the Bus uses HTTPS, just like a bank or online store, which means that all communications between your web browser and the site are encrypted and secure.
How much does it cost?
Here Comes the Bus is available at no cost to families and participation is optional.
What is the difference between the app and website to track your student’s school bus?
The main difference is how you access the data. The look and feel are different on the mobile device for on-the-go use. You can use mobile and tablet apps anywhere you can use a mobile device.
What is the Buspass icon in the app and how do I use it?
“Buspass” is an additional service provided by CalAmp; for our families, "Buspass" will be an inactive icon in the app.
Will my student’s Access 411 One Card scans appear in Here Comes The Bus?
Unfortunately, your student’s card scans will not appear in the Here Come The Bus application. Here Comes The Bus is intended to provide school bus tracking only.
What should parents do if they have questions or problems using the app?
The Transportation Department and Transportation Technology Support teams will be happy to answer questions and resolve any issues. Please contact the Transportation Technology Support team at (517) 319-8360 and follow the prompts for Here Comes the Bus support.
