Drop Off & Dismissal
We have noticed an increase in traffic congestion, particularly at dismissal time. Please refer to the image for traffic flow. Red areas are not to be used for pick-up/drop-off. Red and Orange areas should never have unattended vehicles in them. If you need to exit your vehicle, please pull into a parking space. This will ensure that cars do not get blocked in. During arrival/dismissal, adults should not exit the vehicle in yellow areas. During school hours, adults may use the yellow areas for quick trips in/out of the building. There should be plenty of parking spaces for families who need to get out of their car to walk and pick up their children. Please speak with building administration if you have any questions. Thank you!
Beware of Risks of Social Media
We have had an increasing number of issues coming to school from Snapchat messages and groups that students participate in outside of the school day. Be aware that students are not to be on Snapchat unless they are 13 years old. While Snapchat may seem appealing to students because messages and images “disappear,” this feature can actually create a false sense of security.
Children and adolescents are still developing the self-regulation, judgment, and impulse control needed to consistently make safe and appropriate decisions online. In the moment, they may post or send messages, photos, or videos without fully considering the long-term impact—even when they know the expectations.
What’s important for families to know:
-
“Disappearing” messages can still be saved, screenshot, or shared
-
Impulsive decisions can lead to unintended consequences socially, emotionally, and legally
-
Inappropriate content often happens quickly and without forethought, not with harmful intent
We strongly encourage families to:
-
Monitor social media use closely
-
Talk openly with children about digital responsibility and permanent digital footprints
-
Consider whether your child is developmentally ready for apps like Snapchat
Partnering together to guide safe, responsible technology use helps protect students and supports their well-being both in and out of school.

Calendar Reminders
Costs for Damaged or Destroyed Devices
The District provides every student with a device to enhance the overall learning experience. When a student receives their device, it is their responsibility to take appropriate care of the device. Unfortunately, the District has hundreds of devices damaged or destroyed each year.
Damage to devices or lost devices could result in fines and reduced Internet access. Detailed information on fees is available in the Parent/Guardian and Student Handbook on the District website. We encourage you to remind your student about the responsibility that goes with having a device.
Download the District's Mobile App
The District’s mobile app provides quick and convenient information at your fingertips. Download the mobile to receive push notifications from the District about closings and cancellations and stay updated on today’s school lunch menu, upcoming events, and school news. Look for Sioux City Community Schools in your app store today.
