Q1 Week 10: EOG/EOC Benchmarks #1, Q1 ends Oct 28
Principal Batten's Weekly Message
I hope that you and your family had a relaxing weekend. We are excited to welcome our new science teacher, Mrs. Lakan Allen, who started last week and will take over grades 7-11 science classes. This week is Red Ribbon Week, where students and staff show their commitment to living healthy, drug-free lives. The 1st quarter grading period (Q1) ends Wednesday, October 28th. All Q1 work MUST be turned in by then. This week we have our required district EOG/EOC Benchmarks #1 at V3A. Monday is Gr6-8 Reading and HS English II benchmarks, Tuesday is 6-8 Math and HS Math 3 benchmarks, Wednesday is Gr8 Science and HS Biology benchmarks, and Makeup benchmarks are Thursday & Friday. Students should arrive at V3A between 7:30-8:00am with their charged laptops AND chargers. Students needing bus transportation for Tuesday-Friday should sign-up online: https://v3a.online/bus. Reminder that riding the bus is a privilege and students who cause a delay in the bus route due to not being at their stop on time or not showing up, may not be able to ride in the future.
Changemaker Trait of the Month: Respect
OCTOBER: Respect begins with the way we treat one another each day. When we listen, value different perspectives, and speak with kindness, we help create schools where everyone feels welcome and valued. This October, we encourage our students and staff to show RESPECT through their words and actions, knowing that small choices can make a meaningful difference for others. Nominate a student, staff, or family member who demonstrates RESPECT during October.

College Application Week
College Application Week (Oct 19-25)
College Application Week is Oct 19-25, when many North Carolina colleges and institutions waive their application fees for students applying to college on CFNC.org.This event is part of NC Countdown to College (C2C), a year-long initiative where we encourage students to complete the following three steps in college enrollment: residency, financial aid, and college applications.
NC College Connect Eligibility
NC College Connect directly admits North Carolina public high school seniors to select UNC System universities, North Carolina independent colleges and universities, and their local North Carolina community college where they already meet admissions requirements. It’s that simple! Students with a weighted GPA of 2.8 or above who meet NC College Connect requirements will be eligible for direct admission at a select list of participating colleges and universities. If a student doesn’t meet the 2.8 GPA threshold, they will receive direct admission to their local community college. Check out the full list of participating schools at NCCollegeConnect.org.
