With Halloween just a few days away, we are providing the following guidelines for costumes.

We encourage students to celebrate Halloween with costumes that are safe and respectful to all. Please be aware that students may be asked to change if they do not follow these guidelines.

  • Costumes must to be respectful and must not emphasize negative stereotypes of any person, gender, or ethnicity. Cultural sensitivity is required.
  • Costumes cannot include a mask that covers the entire face. We want to be sure we can see all of our students.
  • Fake weapons of any type are not permitted.
  • Avoid adult-oriented costumes and costumes that could be deemed offensive.

Marking Period 2 Progress Reports for MHS classes are available in Infinite Campus. Students earned an "S" if they are making satisfactory progress toward earning full credit with a C or higher. A progress grade of "US" indicates that your student is not making satisfactory progress. Please contact your student's teachers or counselor for support. There is still time to earn full credit for Marking Period 2!

Please, also check Infinite Campus to see progress report grades for PHS classes.

A Message from Your Counselors A Message from Your Counselors

zoom_out_map

We are entering our last week of October with some fun themed events for the week (see pic). And of course MHS students love to celebrate Halloween! Looking forward to seeing you all in costume and being a part of the MHS Staff themed costume!

As a quick reminder, Marking Period 2 grades close this week. I highly recommend students/parents look at Schoology together and create a list of work that needs to be done. We had a number of students undercredited MP1 and we hope that number goes down for MP2. Falcon Hour is Monday and Tuesday after school and there are peer tutors during Academy. Please utilize the supports available and please check-in with your teachers.

Lastly, there are about 7 college rep visits between Monday and November 15th. Please sign up through Naviance.

And Seniors, I’m here to help you whether I’m at MHS or PHS. Please email me and we can set up an appointment.

Have a great Halloween Week!

Attendance Policy Review Attendance Policy Review

zoom_out_map

Regular attendance and classroom participation are essential to the educational process at MHS. Missing class presentations, discussions, lectures, demonstrations and laboratories can be detrimental to student achievement, grades, credit accumulation and the progress of the class itself.

Reporting and Excusing an Absence

When a student is absent, it is required that the parent/guardian either phone the Attendance Office recorder (510-594-2889) or send a note explaining the reason for the absence. If an absence is cleared by phone, it is not necessary to follow up with a note. Only the signatures of the parent(s)/guardian(s) on the student emergency card are permitted on notes. Please provide the following information: first and last name of the student, name of parent, date of absence, the specific classes missed, and the reason for the absence. Parents/Guardians must excuse their student’s absence within three days of the time they return. If an absence is not cleared within that time, the absence will be marked as unexcused. Students are not permitted to excuse themselves on the recorder or by note. Students who miss three or more days of school in succession must present a doctor’s note, if the absences are due to illness.

The Giving Campaign: Participation Matters! The Giving Campaign: Participation Matters!

zoom_out_map

The Giving Campaign is launching the annual participation competition. The grade level that has the highest percentage of parents contributing to the Giving Campaign (in any amount!) will win an AMAZING activity for the whole grade. Last year, 83% of TK parents participated and won a candy and bubble party. Who will win this year?

When considering ways to give, more and more families are choosing to donate stocks or securities. For some donors, giving appreciated stocks directly to PEF may allow donors to minimize capital gains taxes and receive a tax deduction for the full value of the donation, making it a win-win for everyone involved!

Donate by November 1 to receive a lawn sign and show your support. To learn more about the Piedmont Education Foundation's Giving Campaign or to make a donation, visit www.piedmontedfoundation.org.

Millennium High School is receiving almost $75,000 to support instruction, counseling, and community building.

Rethinking Success: Parenting Teens in a High Pressure World Rethinking Success: Parenting Teens in a High Pressure World

zoom_out_map

Tuesday, November 12 from 7:00-8:30pm, at the PHS Student Center

Presented by: Sarah Campbell, LMFT, and Jen Valera, LCSW.

Come listen to experienced therapists who have worked with Piedmont families, to discuss:

  • How parents can help teens establish a solid foundation for adulthood
  • Parenting adolescents: shifting from micromanager to guide
  • How to address the toxic expectation problem some high school kids face

The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session.

The intention of these presentations is to provide advice and guidance from local experts in adolescent development to parents and guardians so we have the tools we need to best support our children. Our second presentation will be in the spring. This session will focus on the high-school student experience, but everyone is welcome to attend this FREE event regardless of your child's age.

Please RSVP by accepting this Google calendar invite, or by responding to PPNPiedmont@gmail.com. Walk-ins are also welcome. We look forward to seeing you there, and encourage you to join PPN!

The presentation is being sponsored by the Piedmont Parents Network.
