A message from Mrs Byrne
Dear Parents/Carers,
You should be very proud of your children, who have been working incredibly hard this week. It is always a pleasure to walk around the school and see our pupils so focused, enthusiastic and engaged in their learning each day.
Our Year 6 pupils have had a particularly busy and exciting week attending IntoUniversity. This is a wonderful enrichment opportunity which encourages our children to think positively and ambitiously about their futures. I know they have thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
We are very fortunate at St Charles to have such a strong and caring community, where children, families and staff come together to support others. This was certainly evident last week when our school community raised an amazing £190 for Macmillan Cancer Support. Thank you to everyone who donated, baked, bought cakes or helped to make the event such a success.
Over the next two weeks, we will once again come together as a community as we celebrate Harvest and collect non-perishable food items for those in need. Please see my separate Harvest letter, sent out this week, for further information about how you can support our collection. Every donation, however small, will be very gratefully received.
As the term continues, I look forward to welcoming you to our Friday class assemblies. These are always special occasions for the children to share and celebrate their learning with you. I also hope that you will be able to stay afterwards for a cup of tea or coffee at our parent coffee morning. It is always lovely to have the opportunity to chat and spend time together as a school community.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

Catholic Life Of The School
This week, we were delighted to welcome the Head of School from our federated school, St Mary's, along with representatives from their Eco Council and Faith Ambassadors for a special assembly on St Francis of Assisi and sustainability. Mrs Byrne also visited St Mary's with members of our Chaplaincy Team to deliver a similar assembly, helping to strengthen the links between our two school communities.
Today, Year 5 led their first assembly of the academic year, focusing on our school values of Respect, Resilience, Aspiration, Gratitude, Individuality and Integrity. They truly delighted us with their thoughtful words, confident delivery and beautiful singing, bringing these important values to life. They should be incredibly proud of themselves for the enthusiasm, reverence and confidence they demonstrated.
October is traditionally celebrated as the Month of the Rosary. During this special month, Catholics are encouraged to spend time in prayer with Mary and reflect more deeply on the life of Jesus. As a school community, we will continue to look for opportunities to grow in faith and draw closer to God through prayer and service to others.
Prayer
Loving God,
Thank you for the gift of our school community and for the opportunities we have to come together in prayer, worship and celebration. Help us to follow the example of Mary by listening to your call and sharing your love with those around us.
May we care for one another, look after your creation and grow closer to you each day.
Amen.

Gospel: ‘Tell those who have been invited that I have prepared the meal, everything is ready, come to the feast.’ (Matthew 22:1-10)
Using the Wednesday Word link below, read this Sunday’s Gospel
and reflect on the questions below with your family.
KS1:
● The king invited many people to his feast. How can we welcome and include others, just as God welcomes us?
● God invites everyone to be part of His family. How can we show God that we want to follow His invitation?
KS2:
● What do you think Jesus is teaching us about God’s invitation to be part of His Kingdom?
● Why do you think some people in the parable chose not to accept the invitation? What might stop people from listening to God today?
● How can we respond to God’s invitation through the choices we make and the way we treat other people?
First Holy Communion Programme at St Pius X.

Whole School Attendance
Our whole school attendance is currently at 95.2%
We are working towards achieving 96% attendance this academic year. Please help us to achieve this by ensuring that your child attends school each day and by not booking any holiday during term time. Please be aware that holiday leave in term time cannot be authorised.
In line with the Department for Education guidelines, where pupils miss school without a good reason (including a holiday), the Local Authority and schools can intervene, and you may be issued a fine.
There is strong correlation between good attendance and good progress. So together, let’s give our children the best possible chance of reaching their potential.

Look At What We Have Been Up To Key Stage 2!
We’ve had a busy week in year 4. In RE we’ve been learning about the virtues of faith, hope and love and made posters to demonstrate how we can show virtues these in our actions.
In Art, we’ve started to create 3D pictures containing a background, middle ground and foreground. We’re working hard to make these very detailed. Check back next time for an update!
What a busy and exciting week it has been in 5H! The children have been working incredibly hard, particularly in preparation for our class assembly, which we were so proud to present this morning. They put so much effort into learning their lines, practising their songs and bringing our school values to life!
In English, we have also been exploring poetry, taking inspiration from the wonderful poet John Agard. The children have written their own identity poems, celebrating what makes each of them unique and special. We have been so impressed by their creativity and the pride they have shown in their work. Well done, 5H! 🌟
Year 6 had a fantastic week taking part in the IntoUniversity Focus Week, where they became sociology students and explored some big questions about people, society and the world around us.
Throughout the week, pupils took part in a range of workshops exploring different groups within society, learned about protected characteristics and studied inspiring individuals who have helped to bring about positive change. They also considered how different groups of people and cultures have shaped the world we live in today.
We were incredibly lucky to visit Leighton House and the Design Museum, where the children explored how different cultures are reflected through art, architecture and design. The week ended with a very special visit to King’s College London, where pupils enjoyed a campus tour before completing their final presentations and taking part in their very own graduation ceremony.
It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to experience university life, broaden their horizons and begin thinking about the exciting possibilities available to them in the future. We were very proud of the enthusiasm, maturity and confidence they showed throughout the week.
Action and Learning Heroes
Congratulations to the following children who were recognised for making good choices during the week beginning 5th October .
