A Message from Plummer Middle School

One Final Push:

As we approach the final stretch of the school year, our students are gearing up for their last STAAR test this coming Tuesday for math. They have worked incredibly hard all year, and we are so proud of the growth and resilience they’ve shown in the classroom.

While these assessments are just one way we measure progress, we want our students to feel confident and empowered to show off everything they’ve learned. A little extra boost from home can make all the difference in their mindset!

How You Can Help This Week

  • Keep the Routine: Ensure your child gets a good night’s sleep on Monday and starts Tuesday with a healthy breakfast.

  • Stay Positive: Remind them that this is simply an opportunity to "show what they know."

  • The Power of Effort: Encourage them to take their time, read carefully, and simply do their personal best.

  • STAAR Saturday: One last push! Encourage your child to attend our math review session for focused, small-group support.

Where’s... Your Library Book? 🔍

Have you seen it? Is it hiding behind a pile of laundry? Is it camouflaged under a bed or blending into a backpack?

Just like Waldo in the popular series, some of our library books have gone missing in the crowd! We need your help finding these "lost travelers" and getting them back to their home on the library shelves.

Your Mission:

  • Check Your Inbox: We’ve sent out "search party" emails to parents of students with outstanding items.

  • Search the House: If you see an email, help your student track down the missing title.

  • Return the Goods: Have your child drop the book off at the library media center—no questions asked!

Thank you for helping us keep our collection complete for all our readers. Happy hunting!

Soccer District Update ⚽

It was a thrilling night under the lights as our 7th and 8th grade Pumas battled it out in their second district game of the season against the Hoffman Hornets. Here is the breakdown of the action:

7th Grade: A Hard-Fought Battle

Our 7th graders showed incredible heart and resilience. After giving up an early goal, the team rallied quickly to tie the game, heading into halftime with a 1-1 score.

The defensive line was a wall for much of the night, with standout efforts from Emilio Torres, Axel Hernandez, Aristedes Sanchez, and Aaron Salazar. Despite a relentless performance, the Hornets managed to find the net late in the second half, resulting in a narrow 3-2 loss for the Pumas.

8th Grade: Pumas Secure the Win!

The 8th grade team set the tone early, jumping out to a 1-0 lead and never looking back. It was a masterclass in teamwork and defense.

Behind a spectacular performance in goal by Angel Alonso and a locked-down defensive unit, the Pumas held Hoffman to just a single goal. The offense stayed hot, securing a decisive 3-1 victory. The 8th grade is officially making their push toward the playoffs!

🗓️ Mark Your Calendars: Next Game

The Pumas are headed to Thorne Stadium next Thursday to take on the Aldine Colts. Let’s pack the stands and show our school spirit!

The Importance of Reading

Here are a few reasons why it is important for students to read on a regular basis:

  • Improves academic success: Reading helps students absorb information, understand complex concepts, and express their ideas. Studies show that the most successful students read the most.

  • Enhances vocabulary and fluency: Reading helps students build a stronger vocabulary and language fluency.

  • Expands knowledge: Reading exposes students to new cultures and concepts, and helps them build a robust knowledge of the world.

  • Improves social-emotional well-being: Reading can help students develop better social and emotional well-being.

  • Helps students understand the world: Reading helps students understand broader issues in their communities and beyond.

  • Helps students through difficult times: Reading can help students through their own personal rough spots.

  • Encourages participation in conversations: Reading encourages students to participate in conversations about the world around them.

  • Improves concentration and curiosity: Reading improves concentration and curiosity.

  • Promotes inner calm: Reading promotes inner calm.

We recommend that children read for 20 minutes a day to boost literacy skills and foster a love of reading. Encourage your child to check out library books from Plummer Middle School's Library! It is also recommended that your child has access to books at home.
