Curriculum

Schedule Changes
The master schedule of courses for the entire school year is built and teachers are hired based on the registration process in the Spring of the previous year. Therefore, the curriculum office is not able to make changes to course levels or electives after the registration process and even between semesters.
The curriculum office cannot accommodate schedule changes for the following reasons:
- The class could impact my overall GPA.
- The class is too difficult or too easy.
- I no longer need the class for graduation.
- I don't like my teacher and would like another teacher.
- I don't like my Advisement/lunch period and want to change.
The only changes made after the registration process are for students who have taken a course over the summer and received credit for a course in their schedule, or for a senior who needs a class to meet graduation requirements.

How Do I Know If I Am On Track?
Students can earn .5 units per class each semester. For admission to a University System of Georgia college or university, students must pass specific courses in the core academic areas - language arts, math, science, and social studies – as well as two units of the same modern or classical language.
If you feel you are “off track” for graduation, or have failed a course and are concerned about graduating on time, please make an appointment to see your counselor.

Academic Letter Awards
Academic letters are awarded in the fall of a student's 10th, 11th, and 12th grade year based on the previous year's academic work. Students must have a 90.00 cumulative average (without rounding) each semester to qualify to be recognized the following school year. The first year award is an academic letter, the second year award is an academic pin, and the third year award is an academic medal. For example, a sophomore could be recognized during the fall of their sophomore year based on their academic performance during their freshman year.
Honor Graduates
Honor graduate status is determined at the end of the first semester of the senior year based on the student's cumulative GPA. A student must have a cumulative 90.0 GPA (without rounding) to qualify as an honor graduate. A student needs a full year (two semesters) of core course grades at Parkview (if transferring from a non-accredited institution) in order to be considered for class rank, honor graduate status, or membership in any Parkview Honor Societies. Honor graduates are exempt from second semester final exams except in courses that require a state End of Course assessment.
Final Exams
Final exams are the last four days of each semester. Final exams count 20% of the final grade in the course. No exams are given early. Vacation plans should be made so that a students will not miss final exams. If a student misses a final exam, a zero for the final exam will be entered into the gradebook. Students with excused absences or a pre-arranged absence will be provided an opportunity to make up the exam at the beginning of the following semester. The final grade in the course will then be changed after the exam score is entered into the gradebook.
Report Cards | Transcripts
Report cards/transcripts are issued at the end of each semester and are mailed from the GCPS central office to the student’s home address in our student information system. First semester report cards/transcripts are mailed in January and second semester report cards/transcripts are mailed in late May/early June.
Grades are available to view at any time on the Parent Portal, ParentVue app and StudentVue app.
