Maverick Community News: December 8th - 12th
10 Days Left in Semester One
Greetings Mav Nation,
December is flying by. We will blink and the semester will be over. It is important to remember that students earn credits by the semester. Please make sure you are checking Skyward on a weekly basis.
Below are a few friendly reminders to ensure a successful end to the semester:
- Be on time to school. Students are late if they are not in 1st period by 7:20 AM!
- Students need to be in dress code. This includes wearing their student ID.
- As it get colder outside, blankets need to be left at home. Students can wear a hoodie or jacket. If your student needs a hoodie, we sell them in the front office.
- The last day for new assignments and late work is Friday, December 12th. Students have 10 days to get their grades where they want them to be.
- Semester exams CANNOT be taken early. Students who miss an exam will receive a zero and have to make it up when they return in January.
- Semester exams count 1/7 of a students semester grade.
- Attendance matters, students need to be present daily. Excessive absences can result in loss of credit.
- Verify that your student is truly staying after school for tutorials. We have seen an increase in students hanging around the campus after 4PM.
Hoka Hey,
Jamie Baldwin, Principal
Parent Letter regarding the new McDonalds
Dear Manvel High School Families,
At Manvel High School, the safety and well-being of our students is our highest priority. We are asking families to help us reinforce the importance of students remaining on campus once they arrive in the morning.
With the opening of McDonald’s on Wednesday, 12/3, students were observed crossing Highway 6 to reach the restaurant, moving across the busy roadway in front of traffic. Students have also been seen walking along Highway 6 in the morning to visit Shipley’s Donuts. This presents a serious safety concern due to the heavy traffic and limited pedestrian access along this roadway. For the protection of all students, this practice must not occur.
As outlined in Alvin ISD policy, once students arrive on campus, they are required to remain on campus until dismissal. This policy is in place to ensure that students are supervised and safe throughout the school day. Leaving campus without authorization is not permitted.
We ask for your support in reinforcing this expectation with your student. Together, we can ensure that Manvel High School remains a safe environment where students can focus on learning and growth.
Thank you for your partnership in keeping our students safe.
Sincerely,
Jamie Baldwin
Manvel High School Principal

Beginning with the 2025–26 school year, parents must complete two forms in the Skyward Parent Portal:
- Health Notice and Consent Form
- Counseling Notice and Consent Form
Forms will be available beginning August 30, 2025, and must be submitted by September 12, 2025.
Please note: While parental consent is required for health and mental health services, certain legally required activities—such as behavioral threat assessments—require parental notification but do not allow an opt-out option under the law.
Senate Bill 12: Parental Consent for Club Participation
During the 89th Legislative Session, Senate Bill 12 was passed, requiring school districts to inform parents and guardians of their rights and to seek parental consent for students to participate in clubs.
Per SB 12: A school district or open-enrollment charter school must require the written consent of the parent of or person standing in parental relation to a student enrolled in the district or school before the student may participate in a student club.
Below is the Consent Form that must be completed for students to participate in clubs on campus.
Students must wear their ID and be in Dress Code Daily

Parents please check your email from CADY. Our picture company has been sending emails to all Class of 2026 families with emails registered in Skyward.
Unlike underclassmen pictures, every senior has the opportunity to take a selection of senior photos. CADY offers a variety of sessions but all seniors must sign-up for a session to ensure your picture is included in the Yearbook and in the slideshow that is shown before graduation.
If you do not want to complete a full photoshoot with CADY, at the bottom of "Choose Sessions", there is a yearbook only session for $10. The $10 sitting fee is a fundraiser for the senior class and is used to help lower the cost for the senior trip, prom, etc.
Don't want to go to the CADY Studio, No worries! There will be 5 Senior Roadshows were the studio will come to MHS. You still must BOOK the session online. This is a great option if you only want the Standard ($59), Simple ($29) or Yearbook Only ($10) session.

Is your student on track to earn a CCMR Point?
As we look ahead to a successful 2025-26 school year, we want to make you aware of a new state law, House Bill 1481, which was passed by the Texas Legislature. House Bill 1481 prohibits students from using personal communication devices during the school day.
This law applies to:
- Cell phones
- Smartwatches
- Earbuds and headphones
- Tablets or any device that can text, call, record, or access the internet
In Alvin ISD, the expectation is simple: Not Seen. Not Heard. Not Taken.
Students may bring phones and personal electronic devices to school.
However, from the moment students enter the building in the morning until the final dismissal bell cell phones must be powered off or silenced, stored in a backpack or locker, and not used during class, passing periods, lunch, or restroom breaks.
Use in the Hallways
The use of personal communication devices in prohibited at all times.
Use at Lunch
Lunch is considered part of the school day so the use of electronic devices is prohibited under Texas Law.
Emergency Situations
Administrators may approve the use of cell phones in emergency situations where the device is necessary for the health or safety of students or others.
The Texas law requires school districts to administer disciplinary consequences if students violate the personal communication device policy in schools. Each infraction of this policy will result in the following escalating consequences:
- First offense – Device taken, returned to student
- Second – Parent must pick up
- Third – $15 fine + parent pickup
Refusal to hand over a device = disciplinary action per the Student Code of Conduct
Why this matters:
This law supports focused classrooms, respectful spaces, and safe learning for all.
Parents:
Please talk with your child about expectations before school starts. For emergencies, contact the campus office.
Key Features of the Calendar:
A Fall Break October 13 - 17, aligning with the Brazoria County Fair
