Domain 2 - Talent Development

Achieving a turnaround necessitates capable and dedicated staff members across all tiers and roles. The establishment of policies and protocols aimed at recognizing, choosing, assigning, retaining, and upholding these staff members, particularly educators and leaders at the school level, lays the foundation for school turnaround. It's crucial to approach the staffing of teachers and leaders for turnaround schools with a strong focus on fairness. Essential competencies for turnaround scenarios are pinpointed and employed to choose and nurture turnaround educators, and leaders. At every echelon, educational professionals refine and apply their instructional and transformative leadership abilities to enhance the capabilities of those they oversee. This is achieved by maintaining a continuous balance between providing support and ensuring accountability.

Principal Calendar Checklist 2023-2024

One challenge for those serving as principals is how to be proactive vs. reactive. To assist principals in understanding critical tasks that need to be accomplished now while keeping an eye on those to prepare for in the future, the Office of School Improvement has developed a year-long principal calendar.

This live document is not an exhaustive list of all monthly activities. However, high-leverage, critical activities, and deadlines have been identified for planning and discussion. You may Save an Editable Copy and personalize the calendar to include school/LEA events and/or specific criteria for your principal assignment.
