Winter Coats

Please remind your student to wear his/her winter coat to school during these cold winter months. If you need a winter coat for your child, please contact Mrs. Ransom and she can help you.

Student Absences

When your child is absent, there is no need to call the school. Please make sure you send a note with your student when he/she returns to school. Absence notes may now be submitted electronically this year by following this link:

https://www.berkeleycountyschools.org/o/bcs/page/absencenote

It is very important to submit a note or send a note for your student.

Also, when your child is absent, calls are made district-wide to let parents/guardians know. If you know that your child is home, you do not need to call the school. It is a courtesy call for families and mainly is applicable to older students, but is a district-wide system.

Parent/Caregiver WV School Survey

Dear Parent/Caregiver,

The WV Board of Education requires all schools to engage in continuous school improvement. In doing so schools should engage in a data-driven school climate planning process, identify its needs, and work to increase school safety and create a positive learning environment.

To support that process, schools will be doing surveys to gather information about the learning and teaching environment, the health and well-being of students, and supports for parents, school staff, and students that foster learning and success.

Knowing how you feel about your child’s school is an extremely important part of improving schools, so we are inviting you to fill out a parent/guardian survey. The survey is completely voluntary. Although we value your opinion and hope that you will participate, you may choose not to, or to not answer any question on the survey you do not want to answer. Also, you are not asked to provide your name or any other identifying information.

You can access the parent/caregiver survey online through February 27th. Please watch for a post on Seesaw with the direct link to the survey. Thank you!

Guidance Information from Our Counselor, Mrs. Ransom

*Character Pillars - Our character pillar for February is CARING. Please remember to wear RED on Wednesdays during the month of February.

*Attendance - Daily attendance is critical to every student's success in school. If your child must miss school, please be sure to contact your child's teacher. Please remember to provide excuses for any days your child misses.

*To celebrate Valentines' Day, here are 10 ways to say "I LOVE YOU" to your child daily in a very special way.

1. When you and your child are around other adults, include them in your conversations.

2. If your child breaks something, help them fix it.

3. When you child says, "Watch me," take the time to watch them. Afterwards, say "Great job!"

4. When your child says, "Read me a story," treat it as the most wonderful invitation you'll receive all day.

5. Say "I Love You" as often as you can. Make sure you say it just before your child leaves for school (or you leave for work) and last thing before turning out the light.

6. Take up a new hobby or sport with your child - spend time learning together.

7. Give your child a hug.

8. Write notes and put them in your child's lunchbox.

9. Take your child for ice cream or a special treat "just because you're a great kid."

10. Set aside some time to talk with your child every day. During that time, don't watch television, wash the dishes, or pay bills. Just be there!

*Dates to Note:

February 2nd - 6th - National School Counseling Week

February 14th - 20th - Random Acts of Kindness Week

*We are celebrating Black History Month and learning facts about prominent historical figures.
