What's happening in the Media Center?

Students have been getting a chance to hear the books nominated for the childrens book awards. This week they have been voting for their top 3 favorite books. After all students have had a chance to vote, the votes will be tallied and submitted to the NC School Library Media Association to be added to all the votes from students across the state.

Students in grades 4 and 5 have chosen a book to read for their cereal box project. Students are finishing up their book and identifying literary elements such as plot, setting, characters, conflict, and resoulution. They will then decorate their cereal boxes to reflect the book they chose and the information from it.

They are finished! They have been on display in the media center for a couple weeks. Students will be bringing these home sometime in the next week.

Donors Choose Project: Qball Wireless Classroom microphone

I am so excited for this project! I recently went to an NC TIES (Technology in Education) conference. While there I learned about a fabulous new classroom tool called Qball.

Qball is a throwable wireless microphone, wrapped in durable foam and soft enough for students to toss back and forth during classroom activities. This would be very helpful during our Media Enhancements since the room is so large.

The Read a Thon was a HUGE success!

Our Read a Thon has ended. You collected $15,485 in donations for our school. Remember, donations will be split between purchasing Instructional materials and new books for the Media Center!

Our GLOW party has been scheduled for April 19th during grade level enhancements.

Our top fundraising class was a tight race, but in the end Mrs. Gwynn’s first grade was the winner with $1,170 collected. They will be receiving a Kona Ice Party, to be scheduled later in the Spring.

We had two homerooms that 100% of their reader pages created: Mrs. Gwynn’s first grade and Mrs. Price’s Kindergarten. They will receive an entire extra recess!

Here is the most astounding fact from our Read a Thon: as a school our students read a total of 71,623 additional minutes. That is amazing and we are so very proud of our students!
