Oct 11: 1st Mass as Saint Damien School
Honoring Saint Damien...
Over a century ago, a young priest gave everything he had, including his comfort, his health, and his very life, to walk beside the suffering and the forgotten on Molokaʻi. He didn't just serve his people, he became one of them. In 2009, the Church recognized what our community has always known: that kind of love is holy. Father Damien de Veuster became Saint Damien.
For decades, we have strived to carry that same spirit forward in our classrooms, our community, and the way we care for one another. Today, we are taking the next step in our journey of faith: Damien Memorial School is becoming Saint Damien School.
This isn't a rebrand. It is a homecoming, an act of faith, and an invitation to walk even closer in the footsteps of the man who shaped everything our school stands for.
To help explain this exciting milestone in our history, we are pleased to share a brief video with you. It is a deeply moving piece in which Lanson Kupau, Board Chair, alongside our students, speaks powerfully about what this name change means to them and to the future of our school.
Club Spotlight: Model United Nations
This past weekend, Damien juniors Kekoa C., Keitlin T., and Charlie B. attended PunaMUN 2026 (Punahou School! Model United Nations) gives students the opportunity to represent countries and policymakers while debating real-world issues through diplomacy and negotiation. Kekoa represented Iceland in the Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee (SOCHUM), Keitlin represented Peru on the United Nations Human Rights Council, and Charlie served on the House Armed Services Committee. Throughout the weekend, students tackled complex issues ranging from artificial intelligence and digital privacy to human rights, surveillance, national security, and defense policy. As one of Damien’s newest clubs, Model UN is off to a great start, and we’re looking forward to taking an even larger delegation to PacMUN this fall!
