Summer is not over yet!

Hello Panther Families!

Summer may still be in full swing, but the excitement is building as we gear up for another incredible school year at New Prospect! I hope your break has been filled with joy, adventure, and plenty of time with the people you love.

This year, we’re proud to announce a powerful new theme: “Strong Body, Strong Mind.” We’ve been selected to participate in the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta’s Strong4Life Challenge Program, and we couldn’t be more thrilled! This initiative is rooted in the belief that in order for students to learn well, they need to feel well—physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Throughout the year, we’ll be focusing on four key wellness habits:

  • Eat smarter
  • Drink water & screens away
  • Go play & get rest to be your best
  • Emotions are real, express how you feel

These guiding principles will be woven into our daily routines, classroom conversations, and school culture. The CHOA hype team will also come and do a kick off pep rally for us! As someone who is deeply passionate about wellness, I couldn’t be more excited about this theme. Helping our Panthers build strong bodies and strong minds is something I truly believe in—and I can’t wait to see the positive impact it will have on our entire community.

In this summer edition of the Panther Press, you’ll find:

  • Important Save the Dates for upcoming events
  • Introductions to our amazing new staff members
  • An updated Parent Handbook—a helpful resource for both new and returning families

We can’t wait to welcome our new Panthers and reunite with our returning ones. It’s going to be a year of growth, wellness, and Panther pride!

As always, if you need anything at all, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Let’s make this year our strongest one yet—together!

From your proudest panther,
Amy Lemons

Wendy Widis, Curriculum Support Teacher

Wendy Widis has dedicated 24 years to the field of education within Fulton County Schools—including five fantastic years as a classroom teacher at New Prospect Elementary—and has spent the last four years serving as a School Improvement Coach specializing in Math at Woodland Elementary in Sandy Springs.

In her role, Wendy has had the pleasure of working closely with grade-level teams to facilitate Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), collaborate with amazing teachers, monitor the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) process and was a Champion for the Student Success Skills program. Her focus has always been on implementing new instructional strategies to enhance student engagement and discourse, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to succeed. She has also led a Math Olympiad team to two First Place finishes and grew the team from 10 to 25 students while involved with the program.

Coming from a STEM-certified school, Wendy brings a wealth of strategies for integration and is excited to partner with NPE in their STEM efforts. She is looking forward to returning to NPE where she will continue to help students Grow-Celebrate-Matter!

I’m excited about joining the New Prospect family as the data clerk. I’ve worked at Webb Bridge MS, Cambridge HS and this past school year at a middle school in Chattanooga. I grew up in Marietta GA,I have 2 grown children, Kellie and Ben
When I’m not working, I enjoy reading, live music, sunny days, walking and eating tacos. My favorite quote is:
“A friend is one of the nicest things you can have, and one of the best things you can be “

Haley Williams, Preschool Special Education Teacher

Hi, I’m Haley Williams, and I’m passionate about creating inclusive, supportive environments for students with diverse learning needs. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Special Education – Adapted Curriculum from the University of Georgia and have spent the last four years working as a Mild Intellectual Disabilities (MID) teacher at the elementary level.

During my time in the classroom, I served on my school’s Student Governance Council and started a Best Buddies chapter to help promote friendship and inclusion. I’m incredibly proud that our chapter was named Best Buddies Elementary Chapter of Georgia this past year—it was a true team effort and a highlight of my career so far.

I’m currently working toward my Master’s degree in Special Education – General Curriculum at Kennesaw State University and expect to graduate in December 2025. I’m always looking for ways to grow as an educator and advocate for my students.

When I’m not working or studying, I love spending time outdoors—especially hiking with my golden retriever—or playing pickleball. I also adore spending time with my two nieces, who are 3 years old and 2 months old. They keep me grounded and remind me daily why I care so much about the work I do.

With over 25 years in education and a background in both general and special education, I’m passionate about creating a safe, inclusive classroom where every child can thrive. I love working closely with families to support student growth, while helping children build independence and confidence along the way.

Originally from the Mississippi Gulf Coast, I hold degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi and William Carey University. Outside of school, I enjoy time with family, my dog Laya, cheering on the Saints, traveling, and long-distance cycling—I’ve even biked across Georgia six times!

Ann-DuPree Goodsell, 2nd Grade Teacher

Hello, my name is Ann-DuPree Goodsell! I am very excited to be joining New Prospect Elementary. I received my degree in Elementary Education from Kennesaw State University where I was also a cheerleader. This will be my third year teaching elementary school in Fulton County. I have also been a competitive cheerleading coach for the past eight years. I have lived here in Georgia all my life, and I am the oldest in my family with two younger sisters and one younger brother. When I am not teaching or coaching, I love visiting new places and going to concerts with my friends and family. I also love reading and listening to music. I cannot wait to begin this school year!

Melinda Turner, 2nd Grade

My name is Melinda Turner and I am so excited to be joining the New Prospect Elementary family! I just moved here from beautiful Charleston, South Carolina, and I’m thrilled to begin this new adventure with all of you.

I graduated from the College of Charleston and have taught third grade as well as reading intervention. Helping students grow as readers and learners is my favorite part of teaching!

Outside of school, I’ve been married for 28 years, and I have two wonderful daughters Hayden, who graduated in 2024 from Auburn University School of Architecture, and Isabelle, who graduated in 2025 from the University of Georgia with a degree in marketing.

And I can’t forget my favorite little buddy—our 3-year-old cockapoo named Winston! He keeps us all smiling.

In my free time, I live by the 3 R’s: reading, running, and relaxing. I’m looking forward to a fantastic year full of learning, laughter, and fun in second grade!
