FFA Plant Sale!
Even though it doesn't really feel like it with the weather this week, spring has sprung! At least it has in the FFA/Agriscience greenhouse at Saline High School! The RevTrak ordering portal for our annual FFA Greenhouse Plant Sale is live and open through Friday, May 8th. Order pick up will be during the designated times from Wednesday, May 6th through Saturday, May 9th.
If you are interested in purchasing any plants to help support our wonderful FFA members I know they will greatly appreciate it! Our Botany students have worked hard in the greenhouse this spring to get these plants ready for sale and are very eager for staff and the community to see the fruits of their labor!

SWWC STUDENT AND PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
SWWC Marketing Students Shine at DECA Internationals!
We are proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of SWWC Marketing students who recently competed in Atlanta, GA at the DECA International Career Development Conference (ICDC), where more than 26,000 students from around the world came together to showcase their skills in business, marketing, finance, and entrepreneurship.
A special congratulations goes to Karlie Smith and Lily Warren, who were named Finalists in the highly competitive Buying and Merchandising Team Decision Making event, an impressive accomplishment at this level. Evan Schlitt has joined the ranks of only a select couple DECA members in history by earning 1st place in Professional Selling. This is a remarkable achievement—congratulations, Evan!
These accomplishments are a testament to the hard work of our students, the support of their instructors, and the commitment of SWWC to providing high-quality, career-focused education.
Changing the World Through Game Design: SWWC Students Named Finalists
The SWWC Video Game Design & Development students, Gavin Boggs of Milan High School, Clara Baghdoian of Chelsea High School, Ben Gordon of Dexter High School, and Elizabeth Corn of Saline High School, are officially FINALISTS in the international Games for Change (G4C) Student Challenge! Their game, Forclosed, is a cute, short, and cozy merging/farming game with the goal of preventing your beloved farm from being foreclosed by the bank. The game is made with Unity. G4C is a global competition where students design video games that tackle real-world issues like climate change, health, and social justice—using creativity and technology to make a difference. This year’s competition drew thousands of entries from around the world, and our students are among the best of the best. With over 70,000 students from 90+ countries participating in recent years, being named a finalist is an incredible achievement.Mrs. Mulder-Seward is so proud of her students for showing that games aren’t just fun, they can change the world!
You can view and play their game at https://banned3ternity.itch.io/foreclosed.

From Sutures to Solutions: Sports Medicine Students Build Hands-On Clinical Skills
Sports Medicine students recently completed a unit focused on wound care and common skin conditions. To conclude their learning, students were introduced to basic suturing techniques. They practiced foundational skills, including both interrupted and continuous (uninterrupted) sutures.
In addition, students had the opportunity to explore the role of an Occupational Therapist through hands-on experiences. They rotated through a variety of stations designed to represent the diverse settings and patient populations Occupational Therapists work with. Activities included walker balloon volleyball to simulate mobility and coordination challenges, as well as creating slime to support fine motor skill development. This experience helped students gain a deeper appreciation for the creativity and adaptability required in the field of occupational therapy.
Thank you to the SWWC Student Advisory Representatives!
Thank you to our SWWC Student Advisory Representatives for an outstanding year of leadership. Your dedication has made a meaningful impact across our SWWC programs.
The SWWC Student Advisory, formerly known as SWWC Student Council, is a leadership group made up of representatives from each of our 23 Career and Technical Education programs. This group plays a vital role in elevating student voice in SWWC decision-making, promoting program awareness, supporting community initiatives, and building leadership skills.
Our representatives were recognized and celebrated last Thursday at the SWWC Spring Advisory Board Meeting, a well-deserved acknowledgment of their hard work and contributions throughout the year.
GENERAL NEED TO KNOWS (REPEAT)
WHAT IS THE SWWC?
The South & West Washtenaw Consortium (SWWC) provides Career and Technical Education (CTE) opportunities to 11th and 12th grade students enrolled in the Chelsea, Dexter, Lincoln, Manchester, Milan, and Saline school districts. Approximately 950 students participate in our state-approved CTE programs as they continue to plan and prepare for college and career.
On behalf of the thirty-eight SWWC staff members, thank you for enrolling in one of our twenty-four Career and Technical Education classes offered at Chelsea, Dexter, and Saline High School, as well as our off-site locations specifically for Cosmetology and Building Trades. We are excited to have you in the consortium!
If you have any questions, please contact Kara Stemmer, the Director of the SWWC at 734.401.4371 or via email at stemmkar@salineschools.org.
ATTENDANCE
Notification of Absences: The following procedure must be followed when a student is absent.
The parent or guardian must email SWWCAttendance@salineschools.org and/or call the SWWC office at 734.401.4283 to report an absence. Parents/Guardians should also contact the student’s home school to report the absence.
Absences include: Illness and/or hospitalization, Illness of other family members or death in the family, Court appointments, Medical or dental appointments, Absences due to school-related activities, where school or classes are missed. (This includes athletic events, band competitions, academic competitions, field trips, or other special school-approved events.)
Chelsea and Saline students should not miss more than 7 days per trimester; Dexter, Lincoln, Manchester, and Milan students should not miss more than 10 days per semester.
TRANSPORTATION
Some students will remain at their home school for their SWWC class while other students may have to attend another location. For those students who need to go to another building/site, most likely, your district is providing transportation to the SWWC class. It is expected that ALL students ride the district-provided bus to/from their home school. Here is the Transportation Document. It is not fully complete but will be ASAP. Please confirm you're looking at the correct program location/time, i.e. morning or afternoon and that it's for the correct school. Students should report to their bus loop a few minutes ahead of the listed time.
There are some classes that require a student to “self-transport”. You should have received an email but just in case you haven't, please read below.
ALL SWWC students who are approved to park at Saline High School, Chelsea's CTE Center, and Building Trades, MUST receive a SWWC parking permit.
There is no cost for this and it will be provided to your student upon completion of the SWWC Long-Term Driving Form. This is only intended for students enrolled in programs that do not offer district transportation. Once approved, students will receive a SWWC hang tag from their teacher to put on their rearview mirror while attending their SWWC class.
Saline SWWC students will only receive a SWWC hang tag if they are driving to another location. All Saline SWWC students still need to purchase a SHS Parking Sticker in order to park at SHS for the day.
POWERSCHOOL
Students will need to check their SWWC grade using Saline’s PowerSchool. This means students need to log into Saline’s PowerSchool using their Saline-provided username and password. This confidential information is provided to students by their SWWC teacher during the first week of school.
- Parents/Guardians will need to establish an account to have access to the SWWC grade. Here are the directions to do that.
SWWC CALENDAR
Here is the SWWC Master Calendar. This can be used as a guide to confirm the SWWC schedule. Please note, that this calendar is subject to change. Here is an At-A-Glance version of the calendar.
