Book Fair

Get ready—the Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our school! This is a great opportunity to connect with your child over the thrill of bringing home new books to dive into again and again. Studies show that kids read more when they choose books for themselves. A love of independent reading boosts academic success, plus children who read more frequently also report improved mental health.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Book Fair, which will take place during Parent/Teacher Conferences on February 19th from 4:30pm - 7:45pm and February 25th from 8:00am - 9:00am and 4:30pm - 7:45pm. Please note the book fair will only be available during TWO of the conference dates. We will also have the fair open on February 21st for our special Grand Person event from 8:15am - 9:15am. Please note your student must come with you to the grand event. We will also be open on February 21st and 25th for student recess sales.

There’s even more info on our school’s Book Fair homepage: https://www.scholastic.com/bf/oakviewelementaryschool4

While you’re there, set up a Book Fair eWallet, the digital payment account that allows your child to shop for books at the Fair without cash. Then share your eWallet link so friends and extended family can add funds. When you fund an eWallet, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to a giving initiative called Share the Fair™. Your contributions directly support our students who need help buying books from the Fair.

Many of us still remember the rush of finding the perfect book at a Scholastic Book Fair. I hope you’ll join your child at our school’s Fair and share a reading experience they’ll remember forever.

PS: Need one more reason to visit the Book Fair? Every purchase at the Fair benefits our school!

Yearbook Information

You recently received email communication from Kemmetmueller Photography to announce that the 2024-2025 yearbook is on sale.

Kemmetmueller will, once again, be providing a grade level year-end review book for each student at no cost. This book will have photos of all students from your child’s grade along with a school-wide photo collage. You DO NOT need to order the year-end review. Each student will receive one!

The full yearbook, which contains photos of all students in the entire school as well as various collage pages, special groups, etc, is being created. Families that would like a yearbook can purchase one for $10 plus tax and a credit card fee. The yearbook order deadline is April 11, 2025, so please be sure to submit your order by then! Yearbooks can be purchased online here: PLIC Books Store

Purchased yearbooks and year-end review books will be handed out at the same time during the last week of school.

Camp Rocks Camp Rocks

Camp ROCKS! is a 20-day academic program that focuses on reading, math, and science for current scholars in grades K-4. It runs Mon-Thu for 6.5 hours each day and includes: breakfast, lunch, phy-ed, media center time, math, reading, science, art and more. IMPORTANT TO NOTE: this is not part of the District 279 regular educational programming curriculum. Camp provides limited nurse support and general education buses only (no SPED buses). We do not have access to the same student support resources in the summer that many scholars have during the school year. Thus, if you have students with significant social, emotional, or behavioral needs that receive special or extended supports during the school year…this may not be the program fit for them. The district does provide other summer programs in addition to Camp ROCKS! to support student needs.

Remember how excited you were to receive a brand-new box of crayons? This little Mexican girl was thrilled!

Please help us provide new school supplies for children in Sasabe, Mexico by donating to our International School Supply Drive. $10 will buy a child five notebooks, five folders, crayons, markers, colored pencils, a ruler, pencils, and glue. We will be collecting checks (made out to Students Connecting through International Service) and cash donations through February 10th-February 14th.

If we all give a little, we can accomplish a lot!
