IMPORTANT HEALTH INFORMATION REMINDERS

Aug. 24, 2026

We want to remind you of important health requirements, including those on immunizations, for the upcoming school year. Please review the information below. It's also available, along with a directory of school nurses, on our district's Health-Nurse Information page (linked here).

HEALTH EXAMINATIONS (physicals)

  • A NYS exam must be completed within one year prior to the first day of the next school year, Sept. 8, 2026. A copy of the health examination must be provided within 30 days from the first day of school.
  • NYS law requires a health exam for all new entrants and students in grades Pre-K or K, 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 & 11
  • Every year for students participating in athletics (sports)
  • For working papers as needed
  • When required by the Committee on Special Education (CSE) or Committee on Pre-School Special Education (CPSE)

*A dental exam form is also requested at the same time a grade-level health exam is required.

IMMUNIZATIONS (shots/vaccines)

  • Per NYS law, all students entering or attending (including remotely) any school must receive all doses of immunizations required for their grade level in order to attend school.
  • PLEASE READ the IMMUNIZATION SECTION on our site for more specific grade-level info.
  • Students must be up to date on required immunizations within 14 days of starting school or they will be excluded from school until documentation of receiving the delinquent immunizations is submitted to their school nurse
  • Sept. 22, 2026 is the last day students can attend school if they do not have the required immunizations.
  • If a student is coming from a different state or country, 30 days may be granted to come into compliance before they must be excluded.
  • See NYSDOH chart via THIS LINK
  • COUNTY HELP: If you do not have a healthcare provider or lack insurance, the Monroe County Dept. of Public Health can help. It has an Immunization Clinic at 111 Westfall Road in Rochester. Appointments are available each weekday. Email immclinic@monroecounty.gov or call (585) 753-5150 to schedule an appointment. Walk-ins are NOT accepted.

PRESCRIBED & OVER-THE-COUNTER MEDICATIONS

If your student requires medications during the school day, the school must have the following:

  • A written healthcare provider order (written attestation is also required for independent students)
  • Written parent/guardian consent, and
  • The medication must be brought to the school by an adult. The medications must be in their original labeled prescription or over-the-counter bottles/packaging. Any special supplies or equipment for the nurse to administer the medication must also be provided to the school.
  • Medication drop-off date is Sept. 3, 2026 from 8 a.m. to noon at your child's school
