Student Spotlight
We are so proud of the two Lindblom Eagles, Mia Martinez and Shylah Mitchell, that participated in the CBE AI & Creativity Summer Program! It was a great experience for everyone involved - The kids were great, they learned a lot and shared their learning with others. Mia was 1 of the finalists who was featured in the 2024 Sandbox Showcase at the Ed Kaplan Family Institute for Innovation & Tech Entrepreneurship (IL Tech)! Ed Kaplan himself was on hand to support the finalists!
Let's give a HUGE Swoop Swoop to Peyton Woods and Reese Zeigler! Their plays (Reese's Regis curatoris sodalitio and Peyton's Licensed for Evil) have been awarded honorable mentions in Pegasus Theatre Chicago's annual Young Playwrights Festival. Over 400 plays were submitted and they made the top twenty.

BE EMPOWERED
Teen Leadership Opportunities
Cradles to Crayons’ mission is to provide children across Chicagoland, living in homeless or low-income situations, with the essential items they need to thrive - at home, at school and at play. We supply these items free of charge by engaging and connecting with different communities. Our TLC program provides teen leaders the opportunity to be a part of this mission and vision.
The Teen Leadership Corps is an opportunity for students in grades 9-12 to gain leadership skills through in-person service-learning projects, and then put those skills into practice by engaging their communities in product collections and by raising awareness about the need for and work of Cradles to Crayons. Our upcoming Fall session will run from September 25th through December 14th both virtually and at our Giving Factory located at 2500 W Bradley Place in Chicago.
The TLC program has three main components:
- Saturday volunteer sessions - TLC members can sign up for Saturday volunteer shifts and will volunteer to help assist Cradles to Crayons staff in running stations for Saturday volunteer shifts.
- Virtual Wednesday sessions in the late afternoon/evening. Twice a month, we meet virtually for one hour to provide leadership-related training such as a career panel, resume workshop, and public speaking session.
- Final project - each TLC member will complete a final project supporting Cradles to Crayons, which will be either hosting a collection drive or a fundraiser.
Here is the link to the application. The application deadline is 11:59PM on Friday, September 6th.

FALL TRYOUTS
High school (9th-12th grade) cheerleading tryouts are the first week of school on Monday August 26th and Wednesday August 28th. All athletes must be present for both days. Do not be late. Tryouts will be INDOORS at Lindblom in the ROTC room on Monday and the Ballroom on Wednesday.
Monday (3:30-5:30) will be a tryout camp where we will work on conditioning, the tryout cheer, tumbling, jumping, and possibly stunting. We will start at 3:30, which means you should be ready to go at this time, not just then putting your shoes on. This is not optional, both days are mandatory.
Wednesday will be official tryouts. We will go by grade level in small groups, you will be present for ~30 minutes between 3:30-5:30. I will give an updated schedule after Monday once you have your assigned tryout number. During this time you will perform BOTH tryout chees, do all jumps (toe touch, L/R herky, and pike), show any tumbling skills, and discuss stunting experience
Action items:
- Please wear all black athletic clothes, cheer/gym shoes, and have your hair pulled into a style that is safe for tumbling and stunting.
- If you haven't yet, join the tryouts google classroom. Schedules, updates, the cheer, etc. will be posted there. The code is q7j3gzx
- THE VIDEOS OF THE TRYOUT CHEERS ARE POSTED ON GOOGLE CLASSROOM
- Review the calendar to ensure you can commit to football, basketball, and competition (you will be on all three)
- Review the expectations
- Fill out this Google Form - this is a new form, everyone must fill it out before tryouts.
