Celebrating Teachers of the Year
Recognizing the 24-25 DeSoto ISD Campus Top Teachers
Timmie Ray
Frank D. Moates Elementary
English Language Arts and Reading/Social Studies Educator
With 13 years of dedicated service in DeSoto ISD—all of them spent enriching the minds of young learners—Timmie Ray is a passionate and purpose-driven educator currently teaching ELAR and Social Studies at Frank D. Moates Elementary. Known for her deep commitment to relationship-building and student empowerment, Ray approaches education as both a calling and a privilege.
Ray’s greatest joy in teaching comes from watching students grow—academically, emotionally, and socially—throughout the school year. Whether it’s reuniting with former students or helping current ones overcome personal challenges, she thrives on the meaningful connections that shape each learner’s journey.
One of her most memorable teaching moments came while working with a French-speaking newcomer who, over the course of the year, transformed from a quiet observer into a confident contributor—teaching classmates French phrases and embracing his own voice in the classroom. For Ray, moments like these embody the transformative power of patience, empathy, and culturally inclusive education.
Inspired by the belief that every child deserves someone who believes in them, Ray shows up each day with purpose. She implements intentional strategies to ensure student success, including differentiated instruction, timely feedback, and the creation of a supportive and engaging learning environment. Her classroom is a space where students feel safe, valued, and capable of achieving their highest potential.
Being named the Frank D. Moates Elementary Teacher of the Year by her peers has been a humbling and energizing honor for Ray, validating the hard work, long hours, and deep commitment she pours into her students, her team, and her campus community. This recognition only deepens her resolve to lead by example, continue growing professionally, and bring her best self into every interaction.
Ms. Ray’s legacy is one of quiet strength, consistent excellence, and heartfelt impact—proving daily that the relationships built in the classroom can shape futures far beyond it.
