Dear Parents and Guardians,
I am excited to share an engaging and creative learning opportunity that your child will be exploring—stop-motion animation! This hands-on activity is not only fun but also provides valuable educational benefits across multiple subjects.
Stop-motion animation involves taking a series of pictures of objects or drawings and playing them in sequence to create motion. This process encourages students to use their imagination while also developing key academic and life skills, including:
-
Creativity & Storytelling – Students plan and create their own short animations, developing storytelling skills and self-expression.
-
Critical Thinking & Problem-Solving – They must think critically to sequence images correctly and solve challenges that arise in the animation process.
-
Technology Skills – Learning to use stop-motion software and digital tools prepares students for an increasingly technology-driven world.
-
Patience & Perseverance – Stop-motion requires attention to detail and persistence, teaching children the value of hard work and dedication.
-
Collaboration & Communication – Many projects involve teamwork, helping students develop strong communication and cooperative skills.
Stop-motion animation integrates art, technology, and storytelling in a way that makes learning fun and meaningful. We encourage students to experiment, think outside the box, and take pride in their creations.
If you have any questions or would like to support this initiative, please feel free to reach out. We look forward to seeing the wonderful animations our students create! jkrubeck@park6.org
Students and Gardening
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I am thrilled to share some exciting news with you—our school has been awarded a generous grant from the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) to support the creation of Victory Gardens! This funding will allow our students to learn about history, sustainability, and agriculture in a hands-on and meaningful way.
Victory Gardens have historical roots dating back to World War I and World War II when communities planted gardens to support food production during times of hardship. Through this project, students will not only learn about this important part of American history, but they will also develop valuable skills in gardening, environmental stewardship, and teamwork.
Educational Benefits of the Victory Garden Project:
-
History & Civic Engagement – Students will explore the historical significance of Victory Gardens and their role in past wartime efforts.
-
Science & Sustainability – They will learn about plant life cycles, soil health, and eco-friendly gardening techniques.
-
Healthy Living – Gardening encourages an appreciation for fresh, nutritious food and an active outdoor lifestyle.
-
Responsibility & Teamwork – Students will work together to plant, maintain, and harvest their gardens, fostering responsibility and collaboration.
We are excited to bring this enriching experience to our students and hope to involve families in the process as well. If you are interested in volunteering, donating supplies, or learning more about the project, please feel free to reach out.
Thank you for your ongoing support in helping us cultivate a love for learning, history, and nature!
Students Working Hard.
Dear Parents/Guardians,
I hope this message finds you well! At Sunset Elementary, we are always looking for meaningful ways to connect classroom learning to the real world. With that in mind, I would invite you to participate in an exciting opportunity to inspire our students.
We are inviting parents to visit our classroom and share insights about their careers. This is a wonderful chance for students to learn about the variety of professions that exist, the rewards of pursuing a passion, and the challenges that come with different occupations.
Here’s what we’re asking for:
• A brief presentation (10–15 minutes) about your career, including the daily responsibilities, education/training required, and skills that are important for success.
• Insight into the rewards and challenges you experience in your job.
• Time for a short Q&A session where students can ask questions.
Our goal is to give students an understanding of the many paths they can take in the future while highlighting the importance of education and hard work.
If you are interested in participating, please email me at jkrubeck@park6.org and we will find a time that works for you.
Thank you for considering this opportunity to enrich our students’ learning. Your stories and experiences could be the spark that ignites a student’s future career!
