Riding Your Bike To School? Here Are Some Friendly Reminders. Riding Your Bike To School? Here Are Some Friendly Reminders.

Dear Students and Families,

As the warm weather continues, we’d like to remind everyone that it is perfectly fine for students to ride their bikes to school—it’s a healthy and fun way to travel. However, once students arrive on school grounds, bikes must be walked. Our sidewalks are shared by students, families, and staff, and riding through these areas—especially on motorized bikes—creates safety concerns.

Please also remember that students 12 and under are required to wear a helmet when riding. This is an important safety measure that we ask all families to help reinforce.

We’re also excited to share that Ms. Tanner will once again be running our BMX Bike Club, where students will learn how to care for, fix, and maintain their bikes. Club dates will be made available in September.

Thank you for helping us keep our school community safe while supporting student activities.

Summer Reading Summer Reading

All incoming students in Grades 5-8 are required to read at least one book before they return to school for the 2025/2026 school year. Students are asked to complete the Summer Reading assignment, and turn it in to their English teacher during the first week of school.Check out summer reading options for each grade using this link.

From The Office From The Office

Absences/Dismissals: Please call 781-878-4341 or email rmsabsences@rocklandschools.org to report an absence or let us know your child will be late.

Dismissals/Meetings/Nurse: Please remember to bring your up-to-date photo ID (driver's license, state ID, passport, green card) into the office when picking up your student for early dismissal, coming in for a meeting, or dropping off something to the Nurse. If one of your contacts is picking up your child for early dismissal, please let them know they need to bring one of these forms of ID.

Withdrawals: If you are withdrawing your child from Rockland Public Schools, please be sure to complete and return a withdrawal form. You can come in to get the form, or email pdriscoll@rocklandschools.org for one to be emailed to you. A withdrawal form is also needed for those students who will be attending SSVT or private schools in the fall.

Change of Address or Phone Number: Have you moved and need to update your address? Please call the school at 781-878-4341 or email pdriscoll@rocklandschools.org and we can let you know what documents are required for proof of residency. Please also let the office know if your phone number has changed so we can update our records.

Chromebooks/Chargers: It is very important that your child brings both their Chromebook and charger to school everyday. Please be sure they have them before they leave for school each day.

CORI checks: If you plan to chaperone an RMS field trip or volunteer for an RMS event, you must have a valid CORI on file. Please come in to the Main Office with your driver's license or US passport and fill out the form. It can take a week or so for the CORI to come back. With field trips starting to be planned, please come in as soon as possible so you will be all set for when the field trip or event happens! If you are unsure if you have a CORI on file, or if your CORI is still current, please call the office at 781-878-4341 and we will look it up.

Reminders from Nurse Kemp Reminders from Nurse Kemp

Per school policy and the CDC:

WHEN TO KEEP YOUR SICK CHILD HOME

Rockland Public School health policy, regarding school attendance and illness, asks that you please keep your child home if he/she...

  • Has a fever of 100.4 or higher, they must remain home for 24 hours after fever has resolved.

  • Vomiting, or has diarrhea they must remain home for 24 hours after symptoms resolve.

  • Has red/pink eye or has drainage from the eyes. They can return to school after treatment has begun.

  • Is being treated for a contagious illness and he/she must remain at home until on antibiotics for a full 24 hours.

When you call in your child’s absence, please specify the nature of the illness. Thank you for your cooperation in helping to keep all of our students and staff healthy!

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends keeping your child home from school if they have a fever of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher, vomiting, diarrhea, or persistent coughing. These symptoms can be contagious and disrupt the learning environment. Additionally, if your child has a new rash, particularly if accompanied by fever or behavioral changes, they should stay home until a healthcare provider can determine if it's a communicable disease.

Please have your children dress appropriately for the warmer weather. Be mindful of the student handbook requirements. Appropriate footwear is required in gym class.
