Here We Grow
Frances Mack Intermediate School

Welcome to September, FMIS families!
We can hardly believe we are already entering Week 7 of the school year! Our Tigers are settling into their routines, building new friendships, and continuing to learn and grow each day. As we make our way through the first quarter, interim reports will be coming home soon, giving families an opportunity to see how students are progressing.
Be sure to stay connected with FMIS through our Smore newsletter for important reminders, upcoming events, school highlights, and updates throughout the month. Thank you for continuing to partner with us as we make this a successful year for every Tiger. We are excited for all that September has in store!
Warm regards,
Alexandria Gillcrese

Crider's Corner
Ice cream purchases during lunch
Energy drinks are not allowed at FMIS. These beverages contain high levels of caffeine and can be harmful for children and teens, increasing the risk of heart problems, seizures, and other serious health concerns.
South Carolina lawmakers are currently considering a bill that would make it illegal to sell energy drinks to anyone under 18. While this isnโt law yet, our school is already taking steps to keep students safe and healthy by keeping energy drinks out of the building.
Please do not park in the Fire Lane. Please use parking spaces.

Car Riders, Seatbelt Safety Check & SC Distracted Driver Law
1. Consistently Model Seat Belt Safety.
Teaching your children to consistently wear seat belts can take a great deal of resolve. Your first line of defense, as your childrenโs number one influence, is to wear your seat belt and insist that all family members do the same.
2. Never Give Up Until They Buckle Up.
Make sure your kids are buckled up with their lap and shoulder beltโno shoulder belts behind their backs or under their arms, or seat belts so loose that they can wrestle in the back seat. Learn how to motivate your kids to buckle up properly and consistently using age-appropriate messages and rewards to reinforce the importance of seat belt safety.
3. Never Assume Your Kids Are Buckled Up.
One conversation is not enough: Remind your children to wear their seat belts every time they get into a carโno matter whose car it isโand stay buckled up, including at night and on longer rides.
4. SC Distracted Driver Law
A distraction is anything that takes your attention away from driving. Distracted driving can cause collisions, resulting in injury, death, or property damage. Taking your eyes off the road or hands off the steering wheel presents obvious driving risks.
When driving:
ยท It is unlawful for a person to use a wireless electronic communication device to compose, send, or read a text-based communication while operating a motor vehicle on the public streets and highways of this State. SC Code Section 56-5-3890.
