The Casey Connection is Casey Middle School's family newsletter. Typically, it will be sent out every Friday afternoon and will include important information about things happening at school. Our school website is also filled with lots of information to keep you updated and connected.

Message from Dr. Shaw Message from Dr. Shaw

Happy Friday! We are sprinting through May Madness into May Gladness. Wrapping up end of the year assessments and having conversations with learners about their progress is always one of the joys of the work.

Common Lit (English Language Arts)

We are excited to share strong growth in literacy across our school this year. Our CommonLit data shows a clear shift in student performance, with a significant decrease in the number of students performing below grade level and steady increases in students reaching and exceeding expectations.

At the beginning of the year, the majority of students were still developing foundational skills. By the end of the year, we saw meaningful movement, with nearly double the number of students reaching grade-level expectations and continued growth among students performing above grade level.

NWEA/MAP (Mathematics)

We are also proud to share some exciting academic growth from this year’s MAP assessment results. Our students demonstrated strong progress, with over 93% showing measurable growth from the beginning to the end of the year. Even more impressive, more than half of our students exceeded typical growth expectations, reflecting not just progress, but meaningful acceleration.

We are especially encouraged by the growth of students who began the year needing additional support. Many of these learners made significant gains, showing that with the right strategies, support, and effort, all students can grow and succeed. At the same time, we continue to see high achievement among our advanced learners, with several students performing well above grade-level expectations.

These results reflect the consistent effort of our students, the targeted instruction of our teachers, and the continued partnership of our families. We are proud of the growth our scholars are demonstrating and expect to build on this momentum. Collectively, we will work together to help every learner reach their full potential.

To all the mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and every guardian who shows up with love every day Happy Mother's Day from all of us at Casey! Your partnership and dedication make a difference in our scholars' lives, and we are grateful for you. Wishing you a day filled with rest, joy, and the appreciation you so deserve.

Until Next Time! Dr. Wm. Bryant Shaw

Ridwell Announcements Ridwell Announcements

Dear Casey community,

We have the chance to keep plastic film out of landfills! April, Casey will participate in a Ridwell plastic film recycling drive. You’re invited to bring plastic film (ziptop bags, grocery bags, bubble wrap, and lots more) to school on any Monday in April. Start collecting plastic film now so you have a bunch to bring during our drive!

This info sheet explains what plastic film is and why it’s hard to recycle, and this video shows a ton of examples. All the plastic film we collect during the drive will be turned into Trex decking!

Curious about recycling more from home? Visit https://get.ridwell.com/casey-ms to learn more about Ridwellβ€”and share the page with family and friends nationwide! You can help Casey earn plastic film pickups for the 26-27 academic year if 10 new members join Ridwell Pickups or Mail-in through our school’s webpage by May 22.

Please contact Erin Mayer (erin.mayer@bvsd.org) with any questions.

Thank you for helping Casey work towards zero waste!

πŸŽπŸ“šβœ… Free & Reduced Benefits

We are grateful that all students have access to free breakfast and lunch each day at school. Even though breakfast and lunch is now free, it is still very important that all our families complete the Free & Reduced Price School Meal application, as it waives and reduces fees (including athletics/activities and school technology fees) district-wide for many families, can impact transportation for some families, can provide schools with more resources and could possibly increase funding for schools.

This application can be completed online through our parent portal on Infinite Campus. Our community liaison is also available to meet with families and help them fill out the application. If you would like to schedule a time to get help with the application, please contact our community liaison Lily Lujan (ana.lujancastillo@bvsd.org or 720-561-4567).
