Update from Superintendent Shuldiner
Dear Lansing School District Community,
I hope that this newsletter finds you well. As always, it is a pleasure to email you all.
Happy Mother's Day! Today, I write to you all on a glorious, sunny, crisp, slightly windy Sunday afternoon as we celebrate the women who brought us into this world. I hope that everyone reading this is able to spend some time, either in person or via Zoom, with your mom or grandma or the woman who raised you. And if that person is no longer with us, I hope that you are able to spend some time with family reflecting on the impact she made on your life.
As I have written to you previously, we all have my mom and paternal grandma to thank for my going into education. My mother was an English and Journalism teacher at Washington Irving High School in New York City. She spent her career educating students on how to read, write, and think. My grandmother ran a nursery school in the Bronx for years, helping support the learning of our youngest scholars. Each of these women devoted their time trying to make the lives of children better. Though I never got to see either of them in the field, I know from their colleagues and former students that their devotion to their scholars and to the profession was unwavering.
So today, the Sunday after Teacher Appreciation Week and Mother's Day, it is fitting that I personally thank Judith and Norma, Mom and Grandma, for all they have done for me and for all they have done for their hundreds of students.
Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms of the Lansing School District!
Thank you so much for all of your incredible support of our district. Together, we will do great things for the children of Lansing.
Benjamin Shuldiner, Superintendent

Community Celebration - May 17
Community and District Events & Happenings
The Village Lansing Chess Club starts this week! Open to youth and adults ages 9 and up, you will learn at a comfortable pace, in a very positive learning environment.
Our instructors offer the understanding of chess under the United States Chess Federation (USCF), this way participants that learn to play the game of chess in our program can play anywhere!
Our mission is to give an appreciation of how thoughts affect outcomes, how every decision affects every outcome, and the ability to see the bigger picture. We believe that by teaching the game of chess, we are giving extra support to our young people for the appreciation for their own thought processes. We want to give them the tools to think before they act, tools that they can apply to everyday situations and life.
WE ARE TAKING SIGN UPS UNTIL MONDAY 05/05!
