Welcome to our March round-up. The Spring Term is already over and now we only have the summer term left - where has the year gone! The calendar for the final term is very big and it is certainly a long one so there is a lot to look forward to. The residential for Sapphires will soon be here and Mrs Wilde and some of the staff are going for another visit ahead of this over Easter so we will take plenty of photos.
After Easter, our Year 6 will be busy prepping for their SATS - remember practising little and often is the best way and make sure that you encourage your child to have some relaxation time over the holidays too. Staff will keep an eye on Seesaw if they want help with anything too.
We are very excited to have six children joining us after Easter across a variety of year groups and I am sure that all the children will make them feel very welcome.
Remember to check out our weekly bulletin for what is coming up the following week and for those long-term diary dates and school menu.
Have a lovely Easter holidays and we look forward to welcoming you back on Monday 13th April.
Don't forget to check out our Swinefleet Primary School Facebook Group, our Little Pearls Nursery page and our instagram for further photos and insights into our learning.
Little Pearls Learning Update
To finish off our Spring term in Little Pearls we have enjoyed lots of Easter activities including an Easter egg hunt, egg rolling and making some tasty chocolate nests.
This half term our theme has been linked to stories all about bears.
We have enjoyed reading;
'Whatever next' - We went on a trip to the moon in our roleplay area, using cardboard box rockets and welly space boots. Practicing our independence skills dressing ourselves in outdoor clothing. We explored light and dark using torches and had a go at making delicious moon rock buns.
'Where's my teddy' - We have been making fantastic pictures hiding our teddies behind the grass, using lots of positional language and fine motor skills. We also enjoyed inviting our teddies to a special teddy bears picnic in the sunshine.
'Brown bear, Brown bear' - This story linked perfectly to our intent to learn how to mix new colours. We have explored colour mixing through lots of fun activities, including messy handprint rainbows, making rainbow shortbreads, bubble wrap feet painting and a skittle science experiment.
'Paddington bear' - We have spent time learning about different countries and where we live. We had a go at making our own postcards and talking about what 'the deepest darkest Peru' would be like to visit. This linked well to the children's ongoing interest in role-playing aeroplanes and holidays. Just like Paddington, we have had a go at making our own marmalade sandwiches which we enjoyed with our teddies.
During phonics, the N2s have been enjoying 'What's in the box' focusing on a new sound each week, playing lots of listening games and rhyming pairs activities. The N1s are showing an interest in our rhyme of the week and beginning to join in and sing along. N1s have also been taking part in their own 'What's in the box' activity strengthening their understanding of new vocabulary.
In maths we have learnt about 2d shapes and enjoyed a shape race. We have been using our fast eyes to subitise, the children have had a go at been teacher, we have also been learning to use and follow positional language, under, next to and behind. This week we have been subitising using the dice to try and win the gems. Each day we practice our number line to 10 using our flappers, the children enjoy getting outside for our morning count!
This half term we have also experienced Holi day, with an exciting colour run, World Book Day, with fantastic costumes, buddy reading and storytelling, St Patricks day with shortbread biscuits and rainbows as well as an egg-citing run up to Easter.
After the Easter holidays, our stories will be linked to people who help us and superheroes!
With lots of exciting roleplay opportunities planned and links to some of our favourite characters.

March Class News! 🌷
Spring is in the air, and we have had a magical month of discovery in our classroom! Here is a look at what we have been up to:
🌟 Drawing Club Magic
In English, the children have been completely swept up in the magic of Drawing Club. We have explored some incredible stories, including Sam and Dave Dig a Hole, We're Going on a Bear Hunt, and the flying frogs in Tuesday! The children have been using adjectives, nouns, and conjunctions to create fantastic sentences and have loved adding their own "magic" to our lessons.
📏 Measuring Our World
In Maths, we have been exploring length and measure. We started by using cubes to compare objects before moving on to using rulers. We’ve been practicing our new vocabulary: larger, smaller, longest, tallest, shortest, and smallest!
🌱 Signs of Spring
In Geography, we have been looking at weather and the seasons. We even headed outside to be nature explorers, searching for the first signs of spring on our school grounds! The children had a great time talking about what they found and then used their observations to create some incredibly detailed spring drawings.
🌍 Exploring Beliefs & The Easter Story
In RE, we have been learning about how Christians and Muslims worship, comparing and contrasting different traditions. We also explored the Easter Story; the children worked hard to sequence the events and spent time reflecting on how the different people in the story might have been feeling.
🥗 Healthy Humans (and Teddies!)
In DT, we have dived into healthy eating. We learned about the different food groups and what makes a balanced diet. The highlight was definitely planning a healthy, balanced meal for our teddies to enjoy!
🎉 End of Term Fun!
This week has been packed with excitement to celebrate the end of the Spring term! We’ve enjoyed a chocolatey Easter Egg hunt, a special reading reward, and a wonderful trip to the cinema to watch Paddington. We have also been busy getting creative by making our own Easter cards to bring home.
Rubies
It has been another busy and exciting time in Year 2! The children have been working incredibly hard across all subjects, and we are very proud of their enthusiasm and progress. Here’s a look at what we’ve been learning:
Maths
In Maths, we have been exploring height and length, as well as measuring mass using grams and kilograms. The children have been developing their practical skills by comparing, measuring, and solving problems involving different units. They’ve shown great confidence when using mathematical vocabulary and equipment.
English
Our focus in English has been a retell of the story Dogger by Shirley Hughes. The children worked hard to include expanded noun phrases to make their writing more detailed and interesting. We also practised using a wider range of punctuation. A big highlight has been the effort everyone has put into editing their work—checking, improving, and making their writing even better. We are so impressed with their determination!
Science
In Science, we have begun our topic on plants. The children have been conducting experiments by planting different seeds in a variety of conditions and carefully observing how they grow. We have also dissected bulbs and discussed what plants need to survive and thrive. There has been lots of curiosity and excellent scientific thinking!
Phonics
We continue to see fantastic progress in Phonics. The children are wowing us with their growing knowledge and confidence in both reading and spelling. It’s wonderful to see them applying their skills so independently.
History
In History, we have continued learning about toys. The children explored how toys have changed over time by placing them in chronological order. They have also been able to explain what toys were made from in the past compared to today, showing a great understanding of historical differences.
PE
In PE, we are still working closely with Hull FC. The children have done remarkably well, especially with their teamwork and sportsmanship. It has been fantastic to see them support one another and develop their skills in such a positive way.
Design & Technology (DT)
In DT, the children have been designing and making hand puppets. They explored different sewing techniques and carefully planned their designs before creating them. They also evaluated their finished products, thinking about what went well and what they could improve next time.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. We are so proud of all the children and their hard work!
Diamonds
We have had another busy month in Diamonds class. We have continued learning about the ‘Romans’ , which we are all enjoyed. A number of children have been choosing to read non-fiction books about the Romans from our library, which has been lovely to see. We have also been having lots of discussions about Roman life and volcanoes.
In English lessons we have just written a diary entry as one of the citizens of Pompeii when Mount Vesuvius erupted. We have enjoyed learning about the volcano and what happens when a volcano erupts. We are now putting all of our ‘Roman knowledge’ together to write a non-chronological report about ‘Life in Roman Times’
In Maths lesson we have been continuing to use formal written methods when multiplying and dividing numbers. Over the last few weeks, we have moved onto learning about Fractions. We have been finding fraction of shapes and understanding what the numerator and denominator mean and we have been matching and ordering fractions. We have also been learning about measures and we are learning about the properties of shapes and different types of angles.
We have been learning about ‘Plants’ in Science lessons. We have been finding out about how water moves up a stem using celery and food colouring. We have been learning about the process of photosynthesis and how important plants are. This week we have been learning about seed dispersal and how this is an important survival process for all plants.
Our swimming lessons have now finished but we have all enjoyed our weekly visit to Epworth Swimming Pool and all the children’s swimming skills have improved over the 6 weeks of sessions. In the final session, some of our weaker swimmers swum a length of the pool from the deep end to shallow end, Mrs Moffat, Mrs Dean and I were all very proud! With Jordan and Beth from Hull FC we have been learning the importance of team work when playing ‘Rounders’.
On Thursday 5th March it was ‘World Book Day’ we all enjoyed dressing up as our favourite characters and we all tried hard to guess the reader, in our ‘masked teacher reader’ competition! We all had a lovely day.
We hope you all enjoy a lovely restful Easter holiday!
Sapphires
What a fun-filled and busy month it has been for the Sapphires!
We began the month by celebrating Mother’s Day with a lovely “Mums to Lunch” event – it was wonderful to welcome so many of you into school. The children also enjoyed taking part in World Book Day, where our focus was on oracy and storytelling. The Sapphires liked dressing up for Red Nose Day and Reading Reward was another highlight for everyone.
As Easter approaches, the children have had great fun participating in an Easter egg hunt and decorating their own eggs. We are very proud of Year 5, who have now completed their swimming lessons and have begun their exciting Mini Police programme. They are also thoroughly enjoying their Forest School sessions with Mrs Beadle.
Our Sapphires pupils have shown fantastic confidence in leading assemblies on a range of inspiring figures including Marcus Rashford, Jamie Smart, Malala and Gandhi. In Geography, the children have produced wonderful work on Greece, comparing it to the UK. They have explored physical and human features, location, and climate and have used computers to present their findings.
In English, the children have written excellent narratives about defeating mythical monsters, choosing between Cyclops and Odysseus or Perseus and Medusa. They have also impressed us with their drama work and suspense-filled short stories inspired by Francis from Literacy Shed.
During Guided Reading, we have continued learning about the Ancient Greeks and have finished the adventures of Heracles. In ERIC time, we have loved listening to Who Let the Gods Out. In Maths, we have been focusing on algebra, shape, reasoning, protractor use, angles, nets and position and direction.
A highlight of the month was our cinema visit to watch Flow, which inspired some fantastic setting descriptions using oracy skills.
In RE, we have been exploring Christian days of worship, including Lent and the days leading up to Easter. In PE, the children have enjoyed rounders, circuit training, and dodgeball. In DT, they designed and made their own Greek salads. We have also continued working hard on improving handwriting and presentation, while ensuring we uphold the Swinefleet values. Our Arete sessions with Delta have also continued successfully.
We hope you all have a wonderful and restful Easter break. We look forward to welcoming the children back on Monday 13th April.
There is lots to look forward to next term, including more Mini Police sessions for Year 5, Forest School with Mrs Beadle, fire safety workshops, and life skills sessions with Barclays Bank. Thank you for your continued support.

Polybuzz
There is an app which we would like to make you aware of called Polybuzz. This is an AI chatbot which will take on the role of many different characters however the content is often highly inappropriate and concerning. I have attached a really useful link below which gives guidance on putting parental controls on a range of devices including how to stop children downloading apps without your authorisation.
Relationships Support from East Riding
We know that conflict is a normal part of relationships, and we also know that it's not conflict that is the problem, but how we deal with it.
Evidence shows that ongoing, poorly-resolved conflict can have a damaging effect on children’s well-being and happiness. The Relationship Matters website provides tips and support local to you and within the site, there are some great tools, such as the Amity's Little Book of Relationship Care, and links to a broad range of websites, including Mind, and the One Plus One site, which supports separating parents to handle arguments better.
There is also Separating Better, a useful app for families going through separation.
