Week of October 19 - 23, 2026

Dear MES Families,

At MES, we hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and is ready for another great week. It is hard to believe we are already beginning the second quarter of the 2026–2027 school year! Time is flying, and we are proud of the learning, growth, and connections our students and staff continue to build each day.

Second Quarter Begins!

As we begin the second nine weeks of school, we encourage students to continue putting forth their best effort, practicing responsibility, and taking pride in their learning. First-quarter report cards will be sent home this Friday, October 23. Please take time to review your child's progress together, celebrate successes, and discuss goals for the upcoming quarter. Your partnership makes a difference!

October Is Bullying Prevention Month

At MES, we want every student to feel safe, respected, and valued. Bullying Prevention Month is an important reminder that preventing bullying takes all of us working together—school staff, families, and students.

Here are a few ways families can help:

  • Talk openly. Ask your child about their day, friendships, and how they are treated by others.

  • Know the difference. Bullying involves unwanted, aggressive behavior with a real or perceived power imbalance and typically involves repeated behavior or the potential for repetition. Not every disagreement or conflict is bullying, but all unkind behavior deserves attention.

  • Teach kindness and respect. Encourage your child to include others, use kind words, and treat classmates the way they want to be treated.

  • Be an upstander. Teach your child to safely support someone who is being treated unkindly, invite them to join an activity, or seek help from a trusted adult.

  • Recognize warning signs. Changes in mood, reluctance to attend school, lost belongings, or withdrawing from friends may be signs that your child needs support.

  • Report concerns. Encourage your child to tell a trusted adult if they experience or witness bullying. Please contact the school when you have concerns so we can work together to address them.

Red Ribbon Week Is Coming!

Next week, we will celebrate Red Ribbon Week with special activities designed to encourage healthy choices and support a drug-free lifestyle. We look forward to sharing these activities with our students and reinforcing the importance of making safe, positive decisions. More details about our planned activities will be shared as we get closer!

Kindergarten and First Grade Music Concert — Thursday, October 22

We are excited to celebrate our youngest performers this Thursday evening! Our kindergarten and first-grade students have been working hard, and we cannot wait to see them shine on stage.

Concert Schedule

  • Kindergarten: 6:00 PM

  • First Grade: 7:00 PM

  • Location: Marysville Elementary School

We hope you can join us to celebrate their hard work and enjoy an evening of music. We are so proud of our Bulldogs and look forward to seeing them in action!

Keeping Our Focus on Learning

As we move into the second quarter, I want to close with an important reminder about something we can work on together as a school family.

Our most important purpose at school is learning. Through classroom observations, we are seeing an increasing number of fidgets and squishies being brought to school. While these items may seem small or harmless, they can quickly become distractions and interrupt instruction—not only for the student using the item, but also for classmates nearby. When multiple students have these items, the impact on classroom focus and learning becomes even greater.

Starting tomorrow, Monday, October 19, fidgets and squishies brought from home will no longer be permitted at Marysville Elementary School.

If your child already has one at school, their teacher will ask them to put it in their backpack and take it home. Please help us by keeping these items at home moving forward. If a student continues to bring these items to school after the expectation has been communicated, our school behavior matrix will be followed and enforced.

We understand that students enjoy these items, and we appreciate your support as we work to maintain a focused learning environment. If your child has an individual need for a sensory tool or similar support, please communicate with the school so we can address that need appropriately.

Thank you for partnering with us to protect instructional time and keep learning at the center of everything we do. When we can work together, we create the best possible environment for every student to grow and succeed.

Here's to a wonderful week! We cannot believe we are already beginning the second nine weeks of school. Let's continue to make it a great quarter filled with learning, kindness, responsibility, and lots of school pride!

26-27 MES Parent Handbook

Our Parent Handbook is an important resource that outlines the expectations, policies, and procedures for the school year. It includes information about academics, attendance, behavior expectations, communication, and ways families can stay engaged in their child’s learning.

We ask that families review the handbook prior to the first day of school so that everyone is familiar with our school guidelines. Please continue to reference it throughout the year whenever questions arise. Working together, we can ensure a safe, supportive, and successful school experience for every child.

🕵️‍♂️ 6th Grade in Action: Big Discoveries, Smart Buys & Ancient Clues! 🛒

In sixth grade, our students are actively connecting historical discoveries, mathematical reasoning, scientific concepts, and ancient human history. In English Language Arts, students are diving into The Secret of the Yellow Death, analyzing historical clues and experimental methods to see how Dr. Walter Reed and Cuban scientists uncovered how yellow fever spreads—and comparing their public health breakthroughs to modern disease control. In Math, real-world problem-solving takes center stage as students master ratios, calculate unit prices, and determine the better buy in practical shopping scenarios. Science classes are exploring the four states of matter—solids, liquids, gases, and plasma—to build a fundamental understanding of physical science. Meanwhile, Social Studies is taking a journey back in time to study early humans, examining how migration patterns, toolmaking, shelter building, and food gathering shaped early civilizations. It’s an exciting season of hands-on learning, critical thinking, and cross-subject connections!

Bulldog Skill of the Week Bulldog Skill of the Week

Responsibility

We follow the three R's in our building.

Be Ready

Be Responsible

Be Respectful

AND Be Safe

CharacterStrong – Week 4: Responsibility

Responsibility is something we can all keep striving for - grown-ups, too! It’s not always easy to be Responsible. It’s important to think about what gets in our way of being Responsible. These are called distractions and we want to plan ahead for them. For example, if watching TV sometimes keeps you from getting your homework, reading, or chores done, try getting your work done BEFORE you watch TV. What gets in the way of YOUR Responsibilities? Make a plan to solve for distractions this week.
