National School Library Month

In April, we focus on your school library and what it means to our school as a whole.

The Learning Commons at Southside High School is your school library. If you haven’t made an effort to come and use the LC, please try and do so this month. The LC is for everyone!

Our LC is a crucial part of the school. It is not just a place to store books, but rather a dynamic learning and research space where you can explore and discover new ideas. The importance of our school LC goes beyond just providing access to books and other materials; it arms you with the skills and knowledge necessary to navigate information in the digital age.

The primary goal of our LC is to support and enhance your education. The LC offers a wide range of resources and materials, such as books, e-books, journals, databases, and other learning tools that help you learn and expand your knowledge. These materials support both independent and collaborative learning and provide you with access to diverse perspectives, ideas, and experiences.

In addition to academic support, our LC also helps to develop important life skills such as research, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration. It offers a safe space for students to study and engage with learning resources without too many distractions, leading to a better academic performance. Our goal for the LC is that it encourages you to explore your interests, feel confident to try new things, and develop a lifelong habit of reading for pleasure.

This month, please make a point to stop in and see for yourself what all the LC has to offer!

I hope you have an awesome April!

Civil Air Patrol Representative Visits the LC

The initial launch of our Flight Simulators has been successful!

This is an amazing opportunity for all students here. I am very thankful that the Civil Air Patrol offers this opportunity and accepted my application for our school.

If you've ever dreamed of being a pilot, this is the experience for you! I am currently working with a representative with the Civil Air Patrol on scheduling some sessions for students that are interested in diving deeper into learning how to fly! These sessions will be on Friday of each week. If you are interested, please come see me and let me know you would like to be included in these sessions or fill out this form by clicking here. I will get back with you about when your session will be. There will be 4 students working with the representative at a time. Sessions last 30min-1hr each time you meet with him.

I am very excited about this addition and all the possibilities it opens up for our students!

We will begin setting up the Cricut & 3D Printing area next! Some of these components haven’t arrived yet, but will be in the weeks to come! Start planning your next creative project now so that we can bring it to life as soon as the machines arrive!
