Dear CLC Families

Happy Friday! 🎃

We hope you all enjoy a relaxing week off.

Our club leaders are going to miss the students while they are gone, so some of them have written little notes to you all letting you know what they have been up to so far this semester!

Monday Clubs:

Beg. Violin- Violin students have been learning to keep a beat, verbally articulate written rhythms, care for a violin and bow, name parts of the violin and bow, hold the violin in rest and playing position, pizzicato in one or two positions, pizzicato simple songs on open strings, and are just learning how to hold the bow.

Intermediate Violin- Violin students have been learning to keep a beat, verbally articulate written rhythms, care for a violin and bow, name parts of the violin and bow, hold the violin in rest and playing position, pizzicato in one or two positions, pizzicato simple songs on open strings, and are just learning how to hold the bow.

Newbies and Notes- We have been exploring music, its emotions, and how to move our bodies with it, incorporating fun, imagination, and games!

GEMS- The GEMS class has been having so much fun this semester! We have learned about a variety of different STEM topics. The girls took a trip to space by planning a space adventure while using their math skills, built boats to learn engineering design, explored chemistry through capillary butterflies, tracked animals through the wild, and learned the bones in the skeleton. In future weeks, we will be building wood houses, exploring weather, and learning about coding. Thank for your continued support of our program!

Tuesday Clubs:

Dragon Scales-We are working on pitch matching and learning enough songs to be able to take our program on the road (well....to the Residence at Oakridge...) We sing for an occasional assembly and for morning announcements.

Beg. Guitar- We’ve been discovering the basics of handling our guitars and working towards doing some basic single string songs.

Int. Guitar- We’ve been working on the differences between major and minor keys, and basic starter chords.

K-2 Dance- We’ve been building on basic contemporary techniques while doing a collaborative choreography to “A Million Dreams”.

3-5 Drama- We are learning the 5 W’s of characters and plays to create depth and understanding for their “Letters to Santa” monologue play.

Wednesday Clubs:
Broadcasting: We have been working on video production by directing and staging morning announcement videos. The students have been learning how to edit videos and how to use different stage lighting and directives to compose fun, creative, and informative videos to share with the whole school on Friday mornings.

Thursday Clubs:

Band- We are reading music when we play! Beginner lessons take place outside of band time, then band is open to the students who demonstrate basic proficiency on their instrument. We practice during our club and then play for assemblies and AAK special events.

K-2 Drama- We are learning about character building and acting out a variety of stories from fairytales to children’s Halloween stories.

3-5 Dance- We’ve been building on basic Hip Hop technique while doing a collaborative choreography to “Dancing in the Dark”.

Coding- We’re currently working on a coding project using Scratch. Scratch projects are a fantastic way for children to learn coding basics while having fun. Scratch uses a visual block-based language, making it accessible and engaging for children, even those without prior coding experience. Through these projects, students can create their own games, stories, or animations, which helps them develop important skills like logical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving. It's a hands-on learning experience that fosters curiosity in technology, laying a strong foundation for future learning.

Friday Clubs:

Percussion- Who doesn't want to end their week hitting things? We have a blast learning proper stick technique and apply it to ensemble music, learning to read basic rhythms. We always end class with fun games using body percussion and boomwhackers!

K-2 Soccer- What a joy it has been seeing the students laugh and having fun outside the classroom! These first few times in Soccer Club our focus has been on dribbling and passing. Implementing fun games to strengthen these skills, the students were able to learn in a positive environment. We talked about soccer as being a team sport and what that entails. Experiencing the rules and tribulations of a "real" soccer game, we ended each session with a scrimmage. I am looking forward to the next session!!!

Chess Club- In chess club we have been learning how to set the board, how pieces move, and some basics techniques. We’ve been solving chess puzzles and playing friendly games. Moving forward we’ll be learning opening techniques, how to get endgame checkmates and more!

* Please help the students remember the amazing clubs they are part of so when they come back from break, they are excited to reunite with them and pick up where they left off! * 😊
