CLASS NEWS
This week we talked about families. If you have not sent in your family collage page or family picture, please do so as soon as possible. The children love looking at the pictures and telling each other about their families. We will be learning about our families and our friend's families. Some of the activities we did were: My Family picture, Family Words Bingo game, finger painting with shaving cream, stringing beads and graphing: Do you have a brother/sister?
Next week we will be exploring shapes. We also will celebrate Dot Day on Tuesday with several dot activities and a special dot dessert for lunch. Children may wear a dot shirt (homemade or brought) with their uniform bottoms/shorts, dot dress or skort/skirt, dot accessories such as dot bows or headbands. Some of the activities we will be doing this week are: shape hunt, making shapes with playdough, dot creations and sorting shapes.
PK3 have started to check out one library book on Thursdays. They will need to return their book on Tuesdays each week (grace period to Thursday) to be able to check out a new book on Thursday. We recommend finding a special spot at our house to keep their book until time to return it to school. When a library book returns to school in their backpack we will assume you are ready to return it. We will remove it from their backpack and place in our library book box until Thursday.
Fall enrichment classes have started. If your child is attending one of these classes (Creative Movement, Basketball, Pedal Pals and /or Cheer, please make sure to send them with the proper clothings. Boys can bring a different shirt to wear with their uniform bottoms. Girls should have shorts on under their dress and can wear a shirt underneath or have one in their bag. Their uniform is always acceptable to wear too. Creative Movement has its own clothes requirement. We will not be putting tights on the girls (they can keep their uniform socks on instead).
Remember your child's teacher is your first contact person if you have a question/concern. We are here to enhance your child's learning forming a wonderful partnership in learning. We are looking forward to a fantastic year!
WHAT WE ARE LEARNING
Next week some of the math skills we will be working on are:
1.) identifying shapes
2.) sorting shapes
3.) 1:1 correspondence (for example: 1 object to 1 space)
4.) comparisons
These skills we will be reinforced throughout the year.
At home, you can do a shape hunt with your child. For example, can you find a circle? square? triangle? rectangle? Talk about how many corners each shape has and how many they can find. Using common items for learning, it's easy and helps your child gain valuable skills.
Next week some of the language arts skills we will be working on are:
1.) increasing vocabulary
2.) descriptive words for shapes (for example: a square has 4 lines/corners, a rectangle has 2 short lines and 2 long lines, etc.)
3.) same and different
4.) listening skills
At home, you can look at pictures/objects and talk about what shapes are found in it. Read to your child each day to develop a love of reading and a beginning foundation for reading.
