This Week at Waters - May 8
May 8, 2026
Waters Families,
Over the past few months, the Waters staff has been working with the students to create positive behavior norms to implement schoolwide. The norms are shared expectations to guide our actions. The first step was to define what types of positive behaviors lead to us fulfilling the Waters Mission.
Students shared their ideas and insights through a variety of artistic activities. They wrote and performed skits to demonstrate how a Waters student should act in various spaces throughout the school. For comic relief, they also created skits as "non-examples", showing what a student absolutely should NOT do on campus. Additionally, students crafted artwork and engaged in authentic discussions about their own experiences.
Our Climate & Culture Team curated the process. The Climate & Culture Team includes Ms. Rangel (SECA), Ms. Rivadeneira (Bilingual Coordinator), Ms. Zapata (Art), Ms. Pilman (Interventionist), Ms. Bricker (Counselor), Ms. Muzzy (Counselor), Ms. Johnson (1st Grade), Ms. Martin and myself. The team used all of the student input to create 9 potential schoolwide norms. Students then voted by homeroom to narrow those choices down to the final four that we are adopting schoolwide. The norms are:
Be Honest and Take Responsibility
Embrace Differences and Build Community
Try Your Best and Grow
Speak with Kindness and Consideration
We will be sending more information in the future about how these norms are being implemented and look forward to using these norms to strengthen the "inclusive and caring learning environment" that is an integral part of fulfilling our school's mission.
With kindness,
Mr. R.
