A Note from Mrs. Pitts
Dear RES Families,
Here is the presentation that Michelle Long shared with many of our parents and community members last Friday. This represents many of our students and the terminology, if nothing else, bonds us with more respectful and thoughtful language. We want to thank Vicki Scally and the PTA for the grant that brought Michelle to us and we saw the impact when parents discussed the knowledge they gained and the resources they may now access. Below, please find a flyer for an upcoming opportunity.
With MUCH respect and appreciation,
Warmly,
Michelle Pitts
Field Day
Remember that May 31 is field day at RES!! Please have your child dress in comfortable clothing, wear sneakers or a shoe they can run safely in, bring a BIG AND FILLED water bottle, apply sunscreen and.or bug screen at home. You will probably want to pack an extra set of DRY CLOTHES for your child.
Also, we are doing an Olympic theme this year for field day. We are asking students from each grade level to wear a certain color of shirt that day. These represent the colors of the 5 Olympic rings.
All students will also be given a bandana that matches the grade level color to use in the "Opening Ceremony" and to keep.
The colors are:
Kindergarten is YELLOW
First grade is RED
Second grade is BLUE
Third grade is GREEN
Fourth grade is BLACK
VOLUNTEERS
Thank you so much to those who have volunteered to help on Field Day!
If your availability has changed, please update your availability in the sign up genius.
Please park in the lower lot (carpool if possible) and arrive by 8:00 am. Bring water and a cell phone to use as a timer. Volunteer sign in will be outside, there is no need to come in the building.
We are excited for this day!
Family To Do List
- DONATIONS NEEDED!:
- Splits any plant splits if you have them!
- Boxes-Due to the room changes we have to make this year, we are looking for boxes so teachers can easily move belongings at the end of the school year!
- Sign up to bring tricycles or Big Wheels on Field Day, optional!
Second Grade Audubon Trip
French Assembly: Thank you, Mrs. Piper!
An Olympian Visits RES
Fourth graders in Mrs. Warden and Madame Piper's World Language Health class had the pleasure of meeting an Olympian last Friday! RJH teacher and speedskater, Caroline Kepta, shared her amazing experience in participating in the Olympics. Students had the opportunity to see special souvenirs and videos from three different Olympic Games, and the chance to ask all of their burning questions about the Olympics. We all can't wait to watch the Olympic Games in Paris this summer!
On Monday, May 20, Third Graders traveled to the same site to enhance their science standards of life sciences. We went ponding! Students were challenged to assess the health of Milne Pond by collecting specimens and determining if the variety and quantity would result in a positive determination. We found leopard frogs, green frogs, dragonfly nymphs, as well as bullfrog tadpoles. We think they are doing a great job keeping the pond healthy! We were also able to hike the grounds with a guide and learn about the native plants, animals, and vernal pools. We are SO grateful to the PTA for sponsoring these field trips for our students.
RJH Connection
In an effort to create a ONE STOP SHOP for families, we are now publishing the RES and RJH newsletter on Thursdays and sharing the link in one place:)
Lunch with Students
Last week will be the last week for lunch visitors. We have a busy last couple of weeks of school so we are winding down any extra excitement. We have loved having visitors!
- Email resoffice@sau50.org if you would like to attend with the date/time (starting October 1). It is important to anticipate who will be in the building. We love these opportunities for students and their family members but we will always put safety first.
- We do have a focus during this time...eating for energy and brain power!
- Family members must meet the child in the cafeteria and leave from the cafeteria.
- Lunch times are:
Kindergarten-11:45-12:10
First Grade-12:15-12:40
Second Grade-12:15-12:40
Third Grade- 11:15-11:40
Fourth Grade-11:15-11:40
PTA News
Thank you all who came to our events this past weekend! Check out our FB page for some photos from the events. The Luau and Lt. Chuck Gallant Bike rodeo were both a huge success and the kids and parents had tons of fun! Huge thank you to Dawn Ulliano, Kelly Moores, Tanya Soares, Claire Blaudshun, and Dieter Knauss for putting these events on! We are so thankful for volunteers like you! Start thinking how you would like to volunteer next year!!
And drum roll please......
Earlier this month we voted in the new president and new tresurer for the Rye PTA starting July 1st as myself ( Alli Salzer) and Ryan Kaplan end our terms.
President is Marianne Lynch!
Tresurer is Amanda Kraulijac!
Marianne has a current 1st grader and 7th grader and Amanda will have an incoming Kindergartner and preschooler! We are so lucky that we have these amazing women who have stepped up to join the Rye PTA board!! Thank you ladies!! They will be joining our current VP Amanda Moore and secretary Lindsay Beynon.
Don't worry you will still see me around RES and Ryan on the little league fields!
Enjoy the weather this week!
