Dear BCS Community: Dear BCS Community:

A Year of Progress, Celebration, and Looking Ahead

As we wrap up the 2024–25 school year, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the students, staff, families, and community of Berkeley County Schools. Completing my first full year as Superintendent has been both an incredible honor and a deeply rewarding experience.

Over the past year, we’ve listened, learned, and made meaningful progress together. I invite you to watch the video below or explore the linked document to learn more about what we’ve accomplished—milestones that reflect our shared commitment to high-quality instruction, operational efficiency, and student success—and how we’re continuing to move forward, together.

One of the most special moments of the year was celebrating our graduates. Each ceremony was a powerful reminder of why we do this work—seeing the joy, pride, and potential in every student crossing the stage.

While summer offers a well-deserved break, I encourage all students to stay curious and keep learning. Our Summer Learning Toolkit is a great resource to help students and families continue building knowledge, skills, and creativity throughout the summer months.

Thank you for your continued partnership and for making this year one of progress, connection, and celebration. I look forward to all we will accomplish together in the year ahead.

Wishing you a safe and restful summer.

Yours in Education,

Dr. Ryan S. Saxe

As we wrap up the school year, we're excited to share a new pilot initiative: all students (except graduating seniors) will keep their district-issued devices (iPads or Chromebooks) over the summer. This change will help us start the school year stronger by allowing early instructional diagnostics and reducing the time typically spent redistributing devices.

Participation is optional—families may contact their school to opt out. Students remain responsible for device care and return per the technology agreement. We’ll closely monitor this pilot’s impact and make adjustments as needed to support student success.

BCS Bond Briefs: May 2025

Construction is moving forward at Hedgesville Early Learning Academy, with door frames going in, electrical conduits installed, and the roof system delivered and ready. Crews are also adjusting a building corner due to a utility easement.

At Tomahawk Intermediate, the fourth-grade wing is progressing—masonry is done, windows are in, and interior systems like HVAC and electrical are underway, along with drywall installation.

At Martinsburg High School, the band addition and auditorium upgrades are taking shape. Electrical work and drywall are in progress, demo has started in the old band and choir rooms, and new framing will begin soon. Lockers and furniture for the new band room have also been ordered.
