Message from Superintendent Dr. John Baker:

Dear RCSD Community,

January turned out to be a very challenging month. As we teach our students every day, we persevered and worked hard through the challenges.

As public health officials advised last fall, returning from winter break proved to be a demanding time for schools across the country. We learned how some school districts were forced to shift to remote learning due to the high number of community-transmitted cases as their students returned to school.

Locally, we used the guidance in the Pandemic Recovery Framework as well as our established systems and new initiatives to maintain safety on our school campuses. We saw a significant increase in the number of cases reported through our testing system. By advising positive cases to isolate and receive the appropriate medical care, we were able to help them as well as protect others who are learning and working in person.

Because the world continues to grapple with this pandemic, guidance at the local and state level continues to shift. We’ll keep focusing on communicating any changes to our community as it is important for you to be aware of what we’re doing to maintain safety and keep our schools open.

Working in partnership to stay focused on learning safely this school year,

John Baker

Superintendent

COVID-19 Vaccination Verification Request COVID-19 Vaccination Verification Request

RCSD is asking families of students who are 5 years and older and have completed one or more COVID-19 vaccinations, including a booster shot (if applicable) to submit their child’s proof of vaccination record here. Families may also submit records in person at their child’s school.

Knowing the Covid -19 vaccination status can inform important school practices around testing, contact tracing, quarantine, and isolation.

Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination

Here are the ways to show proof of vaccination:

  • A physical photo or copy of a vaccination record,

  • A digital photo of a vaccination card on a phone or electronic device,

  • Documentation of vaccination from a healthcare provider; or

  • A personal digital COVID-19 vaccine record issued by the State of California, available via Digital COVID-19 Vaccine Record or similar documentation.

All visitors will need to comply with public health guidelines, including wearing a mask and social distancing.

For more information about state immunization requirements, please visit ShotsforSchool.org.

If you have any questions, please contact the district’s school nurse at (650) 482-2244.

Adjustments to Child Nutrition Menu Adjustments to Child Nutrition Menu

Starting March 1, 2022, in celebration of National Nutrition Month, nonfat chocolate milk and fruit juice will no longer be offered on the child nutrition menu. RCSD is making this adjustment to help reduce the overall sugar intake of students.

This pilot project will run through the end of the school year at these K-5 schools: Henry Ford, Orion, and Taft. Students will be able to select low-fat or nonfat white milk at breakfast and lunch. Students are offered a variety of different fruits.

All schools have a water bottle filling station, and the district encourages students to bring water bottles with them to school. Next week's menu.
