A note from our Principal
Dear West Side Families,
I hope you have been enjoying this Christmas break with family, friends, and new opportunities to make some great memories. One of my favorite activities over extended breaks is to look back at photos on my phone of the same time frame a few years back. I'm not very tech savvy (so maybe all phones do this), but I love the "stories" my phone creates and then decides to show me at different times. For instance, earlier this week, I received a message from my phone about a Christmas story from our first year in Worland. My older daughter (now in college) and my younger daughter (now, a high school senior) were both students at South Side elementary school at the time of this story. Anyway, the photos were of Christmas morning that year, and the ones I love most are the action shots of the girls opening their gifts while Myrna (our puppy at the time) chased the wrapping paper and tore it to shreds. So much fun!
Isn't that the way of it? The times that bring us the most joy are also the times that fly by the fastest, but, hopefully, we take the time to snap off some pics of these joyous moments so we can relive them years later. I feel the same way about our free public-school program here at Washakie County School District #1. Our kids have so many opportunities as children to build a strong base from which they can jump into any career path through our WHS Pathways program. These opportunities build from previous opportunities, and the only cost to our kids is effort. The lessons learned fly by as the years progress, and the snapshots are the special lessons that have stuck with us the most. Those snapshots help us navigate what we want to do in the future. However, If we fail to apply effort, we don't learn the lessons, and we have fewer snapshots to help us navigate where we want to be in the future.
I can't think of a better gift to give your kids this year than your continuous support of their applied efforts to their schoolwork. Ask about their day. Ask about what they are learning. Ask about how difficult the daily lessons might be; then encourage them to apply an effort to complete these daily lessons. As much as I'd like to believe that we make a positive difference in the children we serve, I KNOW how much of a difference an active parent makes in the life of his or her child. I hope you choose to give this gift to your kids this year.
Merry Christmas, West Side families. Thank you for all of your efforts to help our kids learn and grow.

Message from the School Nurse
TO: All PARENTS/GUARDIANS OF STUDENT(S) THAT ARE ELEVEN OR TWELVE YEARS OLD. The Wyoming Health Department is now aligned with the ACIP (Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices). New guidelines state if your child has turned eleven or twelve they are ready to receive their booster Tdap (Tetanus, Diptheria, pertussis) immunization. Please be advised that your child needs to have their Tdap booster before their 13th birthday to be in compliance with the Wyoming law. Please call your medical provider or Washakie County Public Health Office at 347-3278 to schedule an appointment for this immunization. Medical or Religious waivers may be obtained through the State of Wyoming Health Department or County Public Health office.
Thank you,
Gina Miller, RN WCSD#1 School Nurse
