What a year it has been. As I look back over the past twelve months, I am amazed by how much we have achieved together, and I feel enormously proud of everything our school community has accomplished. Stockwell has gone from strength to strength, and it has been a privilege to watch our children grow, flourish and surprise us at every turn.

I would like to begin by celebrating our wonderful staff. Their dedication, care and hard work sit at the heart of everything we do. From the classroom to the playground, on trips and residentials, at clubs, competitions and performances, they have given the children a rich and memorable year filled with experiences that will stay with them for a long time to come. Spelling Bees, Science Competitions, Sports Tournaments, World Book Day, Federation events and so much more — none of it would have been possible without a team who go above and beyond, day in and day out.

We ended our year in true Stockwell style, with our Reading Breakfast Picnic. It was wonderful to have children, parents and carers out in force, sharing a meal and taking part in reading, one of our school priorities.

To our parents and carers, thank you. Your support, cooperation and partnership make such a difference to the children, and we never take it for granted. It is a joy to work alongside families who champion their children so wholeheartedly, and the strength of our school community is something very special indeed.

I am also delighted to share that the children have once again achieved an excellent set of results, in the Early Years Foundation Stage, the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check, the Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check and the End of Key Stage 2 SATs. For the fifth year in a row, our children have outperformed both national and local results — a remarkable achievement that reflects their hard work and the outstanding teaching they receive. Just as importantly, children across the school have made amazing progress from their own starting points, and every child should be incredibly proud of their achievements this year.

Saying goodbye to Year 6 is never easy, and this year is no exception. This wonderful group of children have achieved some truly incredible results, and we are hugely proud — not only of what they have accomplished academically, but of the confident and thoughtful young people they have become.

Their end of year performance of Aladdin was nothing short of magical. They sang, danced and acted their hearts out, and the show was incredible. It was a fitting celebration of their talent, teamwork and the joy they have brought to our school over the years.

We made sure to send them off in style. Their Leavers' Dance was a night to remember, full of laughter, music and more than a few impressive moves, and we paid tribute to their time at Stockwell during their Leavers' Assembly.

To our Year 6 leavers: as you move on to secondary school, stay curious, work hard and, above all, stand firm in what you believe in. You leave Stockwell with our very best wishes, and we cannot wait to hear about all that you go on to achieve.

A huge congratulations to Year 5 for their spectacular Windrush Carnival Assembly. The children shared their learning about the Windrush Generation, telling the stories of those who travelled to Britain and exploring their experiences with such maturity, respect and pride. It was clear how deeply the children had engaged with this important part of our history, and their knowledge and confidence shone through in every moment.

What made the assembly all the more special was the way it brought our community together. It was wonderful to see so many parents and carers joining us for this celebration of learning, and the children rose to the occasion beautifully. The highlight, without a doubt, was watching them lead everyone in a joyful parade to 'Follow the Leader' — a carnival moment full of colour, music and smiles that none of us will forget in a hurry.

Ain't It Fun

One of the true highlights of this term was The Big One — a joyous celebration of music that brought together the choirs and bands from Bonneville, Jessop and Stockwell. It is an event quite unlike any other, and this year's concert was every bit as special as we have come to expect.

From start to finish, the children were centre stage, and rightly so. Each band and choir performed individually, showcasing the talent, hard work and musicianship developed across the year, and every performance was met with well-deserved applause. But the most magical moments came when the children from all three schools performed together — harmonising, listening to one another and working in true collaboration. Hearing so many voices and instruments unite as one was a powerful reminder of what our Federation is all about.

Music has a wonderful way of bringing people together, and The Big One did exactly that. Congratulations to every child who took part, and thank you to the staff whose passion and dedication make events like this possible. We are already looking forward to next year's concert!

What a way to celebrate the summer! Our Summer Fair and Windrush: African/Caribbean celebrations were a triumph, and we owe an enormous thank you to our parents and carers for their hard work in organising these wonderful events and for creating such special opportunities for our community to come together.

The fair was started in true style by our Year 2 children, whose Flashmob took everyone by surprise and set the tone for the whole afternoon. They danced their hearts out, and the crowd loved every second — what a fantastic way to kick off the celebrations!

I would like to take this opportunity to say just how important our PTA: Friends of Stockwell (FOS) is to life at Stockwell. The money they raise enables us to support our community through donations at Christmas, pays for children to attend trips and visits, and contributes vital funds to the school. We are also incredibly thankful that, thanks to their hard work, we are able to feed our community for free at least four times a year. This generosity makes a real difference to so many families, and we simply could not do it without them.Thank you to everyone who attended, bought raffle tickets, manned stalls, organised bouncy castles and enjoyed the sunshine on our school grounds — taking shelter, of course, under our brand new gazebos, which the PTA also paid for!

A special thank you must also go to Mr Nunes for organising and moving all of the furniture needed to make these events run so smoothly. His hard work behind the scenes never goes unnoticed.

Earlier this term, we held our Parent Forum. This is an opportunity for parents to let us know what is going well and what areas we could make further improvements in. Thank you to those parents who attended. Your feedback helps us to make decisions that drive school improvement and create better opportunities for the children of Stockwell.

What is going well:

  • General feeling of the school. There is a very friendly at the school and positive atmosphere between parents

  • SLT greeting every single child by name in the morning

  • The children feel very cared for and encouraged

  • It is amazing how much fits into the day (learning, trips, visitors, clubs etc)!

Thank you for sharing this strengths with us. It is useful to know whatis working well so that we can build on these areas further. We have worked hard to make Stockwell a hub for the community, so hearing that this is seen and appreciated is a true commendation.

Things for us to work on:

  • Meals may be rushed. Feeling that children are rewarded eating everything or finishing quickly

All children have an hour for lunch. They are allowed as long as they need to eat their meals, but may be encouraged to finish up if their lunch hour is coming to an end. Some children prefer to spend their time playingm and therefore rush their meals, but there are no rewards for fastest finishers.

  • Is there always a vegan option in the canteen?

There is always a vegan option at lunch time. The school's menu is shared on the BJS App (Weduc) and is available on our website and the newsletter.

  • Messaging around overeating/being fat/dieting and how this is conveyed to children in lessons

We celebrate diversity and healthy eating. In fact, the school council is working on our Healthy Food policy. Where the term 'fat' is used, it is in relation to healthy fats in foods and the food pyramid.

  • Could there be healthier food options available at summer/winter fair, Eid/Caribbean/Portuguese celebrations?

The contributions at school events come from parents. There is usually a range of foods, including salads and fruit, though we acknowledge that there are a large number of cakes, sweets and desserts as well.

  • How are the screens used in class? Is this for videos, teaching slides etc?

Screens are used as part of teaching through the Interactive Panels. In EYFS, children may have an option to use the large screen as part of Explore and Learn. In other year groups, children have access to Lexia, Flash Academy and TTRS, which are tools used to support with their learning. In higher year groups, children may use iPads as part of research. All children from Years 1-6 take part in a Computing lesson once per week.

  • Could there be a reminder on WEDUC on the day about events that are happening that day?

Where possible, we send reminders during the week ahead of school events. We are balancing communication, trying to ensure that parents and carers have the right information (with remincders) without sending too many messages to parents. The school calendar, both in Weduc and on the school website, is a great source of information about dates and events.

As we reach the end of the year we are saying 'Goodbye' to some of our members of staff.

Mr O'Beirne (Mr Dennis) has worked for the Federation for 23 years, working at Jessop, Stockwell and Bonneville in a number of different roles. Most recently, he has worked as the Senior Personnel Officer, making a huge contribution to the wellbeing of staff across the Federation.

We thank him for his service and wish him the very best in his retirement.

Ms Mansell joined the Federation in September 2022. After being in post for 3 weeks, she led EYFS through Ofsted. She has contributed hugely to the improvements Stockwell has made over the years, through her role as Assistant Headteacher for Teaching and Learning.

Ms Mansell is relocating to Bath with her family. We wish her the very best for the future and thank her for all of her hard work.

Mrs Congdon joined the Federation 3 years ago as Executive SENDCo. She has worked across the Federation ensuring that all children are supported to achieve from their own starting points. Working with the Federation Inclusion team, she has increased funding for children with the highest level of need, strengthen provision and improved outcomes for some of our most vulnerable learners.

Mrs Congdon is moving to Suffolk with her family and we would like to thank her for everything she has done during her time at the Federation.

Ms Angley joined Stockwell in January 2025, taking over 1S from Mr Serra. She has worked tirelessy with the class, taking them up to Year 2. In her role leading PE, she has worked with Mr Osman to organise and run sports events for children across the school, including our Sports Days earlier this term.

Ms Angley is returning to Australia and we wish her well for her travels. Thank you for all of your hard work!

Mrs Thorpe joined Stockwell in September 2025. She has been working as an integral part of the Year 3 team, working alongside Ms Nahar to lead the year group. Alongside the Year 3 team, she has organsied school trips, including the Year 3 sleepover in March.

Mrs Thorpe is taking some time out to spend with her family. We thank her for everything she has contributed to Stockwell and wish her the very best for her next adventure.

Ms Gyamfi joined Stockwell in March 2025 through an agency. Her hard work and dedication saw her become part of the Stockwell family as she took on a permanent position. Working in the office as front of house, and alongside Mrs Fraga as part of the attendance team, she greets parents and carers and has been a surce of knowledge and information for parents new and experienced.

Ms Gyamfi leaves us to take up a position in a different field. We are thankful for her hard work during her time at Stockwell.

Ms Yadjia has worked with us in the EYFS since November 2024. She has supported some of our children with additional needs, moving with them when they transitioned to Reception. Ms Yadjia has been a brilliant member of the team, working to adapt learning opportunities for all children so they could thrive.

Ms Yadjia's placement at Stockwell has come to an end and we wish her well for the future.

As we say goodbye for the summer, I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to our parents and carers for your very generous — but wholly unnecessary! — gifts. Please know that your kindness means a great deal to us all. Thank you, too, for the kind words shared in your cards; they have been read, treasured and appreciated more than you know. Your support and encouragement makes our work so rewarding.

As I reflect on the year, I am filled with pride. The school continues to go from strength to strength, and I genuinely cannot wait to see where we go next. With such wonderful children, dedicated staff and a supportive community behind us, I know the best is yet to come.

Wishing you all a wonderful, restful summer break. Enjoy every moment with your families, and I will see you all in September.

Stockwell Football Teams Enjoy a Fantastic Season

It has been an exciting and successful year for our Stockwell football teams, with plenty of memorable performances, teamwork and determination on display throughout the season.

Year 5 Football Tournament Success

A huge congratulations to our Year 5 football team, who enjoyed an outstanding tournament. The team finished 1st in their group after a series of impressive performances, winning all five of their group matches:

  • Stockwell 3–2
  • Stockwell 2–0
  • Stockwell 2–1
  • Stockwell 3–1
  • Stockwell 5–2

These fantastic results secured a well-deserved place in the final, where the team faced a strong Allen Edward’s side. Despite giving their all and showing great determination, Stockwell were narrowly defeated 3–1, finishing as tournament runners-up.

The players should be incredibly proud of their achievements. Throughout the tournament they displayed excellent teamwork, resilience, sportsmanship and a never-give-up attitude, representing Stockwell brilliantly.

Year 3/4 Football Team

Our Year 3/4 football team also had a positive season, finishing mid-table in the league. As one of the younger squads, the team continued to develop with every match, growing in confidence, skill and understanding of the game.

Their progress throughout the season has been fantastic to see, and there is every reason to believe this is a sign of exciting things to come next year. We look forward to watching them continue to improve and achieve even greater success.

Your support is greatly appreciated and plays an important part in the success and enjoyment of school sport at Stockwell.

Well done to all of our players for representing Stockwell with pride. We can’t wait to see what next season brings!

Courage

Courage means doing the right thing, even when it feels scary or hard. It means trying something new, standing up for what you believe in, and having a go even when you're not sure you'll succeed. Courage means speaking up when something is wrong, even if others stay quiet. Courage doesn't mean you're never afraid — it means you keep going, even when you are.

It took courage for Amara to put her hand up and share her idea with the whole class.
Zaine showed courage when he tried the climbing wall, even though he was scared of heights.

Staying Safe During The Summer Holidays

School’s out … for summer! Yes, it’s that time of the year again: around six weeks at home for ecstatic youngsters. For many young people, a bumper stint off school means a welcome chance to spend even more time with their games console, phone, tablet or smart TV. So whether your children are likely to be scrolling on Snapchat, nestling in front of Netflix or frying foes on Fortnite, the National College has put together some top tips to help you keep them safe online this holiday.

In the guide from the National College, you'll find tips such as setting a screen time limit, setting a good example and limit social audiences.

We are often asked how parents and carers can support the school. We have worked with the school to create an Amazon Wish List to enable parents, carers, friends and family members to buy items that the school really needs.

If you are in a position to support the school in this way, please have a look through, and if you see something you would like to buy, just follow the same process as you would if you were ordering something for yourself. Items will be delivered directly to the school, marked for the attention of the relevant teacher.

Attendance Attendance

User uploaded image
zoom_out_map

Central to raising standards in all schools and ensuring all pupils can fulfil their potential is the need for children to attend school regularly to benefit from their education.

There is a strong link between good learning, high achievement, rapid progress and developing good social skills with excellent attendance.

We want to take this opportunity to outline our expectations for school attendance this academic year.

If your child arrives at school from 9am they will be marked as LATE, if they arrive after 9.30am, they will be classed as “late after the register is closed” and their attendance is classed as absent for the morning session. As the registers would have already been returned to the Department for Education.

Regular poor punctuality can also have a negative effect on your child’s attendance as well as their academic learning. Being 6 minutes late each day equals 30 minutes of missed learning every week.

If your child’s attendance drops below 90%, we will need to share our concerns with the Local Authority Education Welfare Officer at Lambeth Council.

Holidays in Term Time

Education Law states that it is not a parent’s right to take a child out of school during term time to go on holiday. Families must seek permission from the school and your school’s Headteacher is limited in what they can authorise. We can authorise leave if a child is in a performance and a performance license has been granted by the local authority. For any other authorised holiday, there must be extenuating circumstances therefore we cannot authorise a holiday because it is cheaper outside of term time.

2025/2026 Attendance Winners

While we ended the year with overall attendance of 94.4%, I am proud of how far we have come with attendance this year. Well done to all who maintained attendance of over 95%. Let's see if we can do even better next year

School Uniform

School uniform should be worn throughout the school day. While we do not enforce that all school uniform should be branded, children should be wearing the correct colours (white t-shirt tops, navy trousers/ skirts/ pinafore dresses, sensible black shoes). Football boots/ coloured trainers are not school uniform and should not be worn.

Children should be changing into their PE kits for PE lessons (blue or black tracksuit bottoms, plain white t-shirt, trainers). We have made arrangements for girls and boys to be able to change separately, so the expectation is that all children change for PE.

While our supplier of school uniform is WearAbouts, we do have some items available for sale from the school office. Please check with us to see if we have what you need in stock.

Support online:

Kooth is a free online mental health and wellbeing service available to all young people in Lambeth aged 10-25. It is a self-referral service, where young people have access to fully-qualified online counsellors until 10pm every single day of the year. There is also a range of other support including: an online interactive magazine, discussion boards, self-help tools, and wellbeing activities.

The new Lambeth microsite to accompany the ‘It’s Not That Deep’ campaign is aimed specifically at young people and contains information for those experiencing harassment, those wanting to become allies, and those who are doing the harmful behaviour.

Fostering in Lambeth

A new child comes into care every day in Lambeth. Many of these children will need the love and stability that a foster carer can provide.

What is fostering?

Being a foster parent means caring for someone else’s child as part of your family. Foster carers look after children who are unable to live with their parents, through no fault of their own. You'll be given lots of training and support, as well as allowances to cover living costs, the costs of food, travel and for the time you'll need to invest in supporting any child in your care.

Who can foster?

Lambeth Fostering welcome applications from everyone with a passion for caring. You just need to be over 21, have a spare room, good written and spoken English, and permanent UK residency.
