Dear Collins Intermediate Families,
September has been full of learning, growth, and excitement here at Collins! Our students and teachers have been working incredibly hard, and it’s wonderful to see that effort reflected in the classroom each day. Clubs are also off to a fantastic start, and we love watching students get involved and discover new interests.
This week, we look forward to Read for a Better Life and the chance to celebrate the joy of reading alongside our feeder schools and district. It’s always a special time to see our students connect with books in new and meaningful ways.
Thank you for your continued support at home. Let’s finish September strong as we look ahead to a great October together!
Sincerely,
Chelsea Harness
Principal, Collins Intermediate
Upcoming Dates📆
Friends of Collins
The Collins PTO’s Friends of Collins Fall Fundraiser officially kicked off on Wednesday! We hope your students came home excited to share the news with you.
This year, we’re challenging every student to find 10 people to give $10 each—a simple way to make a big impact for our school!
Click here for the video we showed on announcements to teach them about the fundraiser.
Not sure where to start? Here are a few ideas to help your child ask for donations:
-
Family members (grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins)
-
Neighbors and family friends
-
Parents’ coworkers or close friends
-
Coaches, mentors, or church members
Every donation makes a difference, and 100% of funds raised go directly to benefit our Collins students, teachers, staff, and campus. Thank you for your support!
Every school district is required to establish policies to “ensure planning and site-based decision making occur at each campus to direct and support the improvement of student performance for all students.
What does the Site-Based Committee even do?
- Develop, review and revise CIP
- Assist in providing feedback in the planning, operation, supervision, and evaluation of the campus systems and structures
- Provide feedback for campus budgeting and allocation of campus funds
Interested in being apart of it? Click HERE to sign up. We meet atleast twice a year.

At Collins, we’re working hard to help our students grow as responsible, independent communicators. One way we do this is by encouraging them to take the lead when they have questions about their clubs and activities. Instead of parents reaching out to sponsors directly, we ask that you encourage your student to or talk with the sponsor themselves. This helps them build confidence and important life skills! 👍
We had a BLAST with Volleyball over the last three weeks! The students grew so much in their skills and we were able to play some fun games. Next week, we will begin our Pickleball and Handball Units! We will also have our first Cobra Cardio. Cobra Cardio is walking and/or running one mile within 20 minutes. Please continue to help us remind the kids to bring their water bottles to PE. Thank you!
In Mrs. Williams' class we have been learning about a variety of art movements and art mediums. We have been practicing various techniques and working on value scales in preparation for Rodeo Art. In Mr. Hunt’s art class, we are starting to working on our rodeo art project. Students are learning how to draw realistically and how to color with oil pastel.

Dismissal Reminders
Inclement Weather Dismissal
In the event of severe weather, please check your email or text for updates on whether we will have an Inclement Weather (Rainy Day) Dismissal.
If extreme weather (wind, hail, lightning, extreme rain) is expected around dismissal (4:05 PM), we recommend that students get picked up in the Car Rider Line. Biking and walking students will only be released directly to a parent with the student's car rider sign or ID number.
Car Rider:
- Every parent should have a car rider sign visible in the car line.
- If you are picking up additional students, please write each student’s ID number clearly and in large print on a sheet of paper.
- Missing car rider signs or ID numbers slows down the process for everyone.
Biker/Walker:
- Parents using this option should line up at the 5th grade bike rack.
- A car rider sign or ID number is also required.
Calling the Front Office:
- We will do our best to notify families by 3:35 PM if an Inclement Weather Dismissal will be used.
- Please have a "Plan B" established with your child so they will know how they are getting home.
- You do not need to call the front office unless it is a change from your pre-established "Plan B."
